McCarren Park Softball Coalition Mission Statement

Following the senseless and tragic murders of Breonna Taylor, Amaud Arbrey, George Floyd and numerous others – our country has reached a pivotal point with regards to racial injustices carried out against black individuals and communities.  People everywhere are grieving and they are outraged.  Every black and brown person has a right to live, to breathe and to simply be themselves in all communities without fear of violence and/or bigotry.

In response to these events, we members of the Williamsburg Softball League, McCarren Saturday Softball League and No Pro Sports Softball Leagues have decided to band our resources together to form a united organization that will be called the McCarren Park Softball Coalition (MPSC).  We will use our collective voice, as a community of friends and softball players, to state, unequivocally, that racism has no place in our community and that Black Lives Matter.

While it is already our responsibility to create an inclusive, safe, and welcoming environment which encourages friendly competition on the softball field, there are more pressing issues that we can no longer ignore.  As a combined organization of over 1,000 diverse individuals, the McCarren Park Softball Coalition mission will be to support Black Lives Matter causes and other anti-racist organizations in the fight to end police brutality and systemic racial oppression.

We acknowledge that substantiated action is the only way to enact change. Therefore, the McCarren Park Softball Coalition is committed to taking action through community engagement, education initiatives and monetary donations to organizations that work toward ending white supremacy and systemic racism within the United States and around the world.  Our executive committee will, additionally, commit to examining implicit biases within ourselves and our communities, while also promoting inclusivity within our leadership structures.

By donating our support, time and money to Black Lives Matter causes and other anti-racist organizations, we are announcing to our fellow players, our sponsors and our community that we will do our part to fight against all racial injustices and oppression.  Please consider joining us in our mission by making a personal commitment to take action and to stand up for black lives.

In Solidarity,
McCarren Park Softball Coalition
