2023 SEASON CHAMP - SCORPIONS

After a disappointing end to the 2022 season where the Scorps didn’t make it out of the second round, they licked their wounds, brought in some reinforcements and came back strong. While they didn’t have the overall best record in the regular season, they played lights out in the playoffs, running the table and winning their second championship in three years!

2022 SEASON CHAMP - Parkview Suzies

The Parkview Suzies were by far the best team of the 2022 season. After losing to the 2021 Scorpions in the championship, the Suzies stormed back and made it to the championship again in back-to-back seasons. This time they were not to be denied and defeated Eacho Bravo in epic fashion!

2021 Season champ - scorpions

Over the course of 2006 – 2016 Black Betty, the dynasty and precursor to the Scorpions, went to the Championship 10 times, winning six rings. Since 2017 the Betty had not even gotten out of the second round and times were tough.

Until a veil was lifted and a new era was born. The Black Betty transformed into The Scorpions and a resurgence began.

They took 2021 by storm and won the championship!

2020 Season Champ – Covid 19

No one wins. Just Covid.

2019 Season Champions – Turkey’s Nest

The 2019 edition of the Turkey’s Nest knew before the season began that charismatic talisman Dan Shafer would head north never to be heard from again. In addition,  John (JL) Lewis would also retreat to the suburbs, raise his children and teach them the way of the Turks. So a lot of emotion coming into this farewell season for 2 WSL legends.

The regular season was weird. We started with a forfeit and swept the defending champs. Season ending injuries. Got blown out, blew teams out. Endured the rains that gave us rescheduled games. Lost and won by walk off and earned a 4 seed.

The playoffs were magical as the top 2 seeds were upset on our side of the bracket. The Turks won the next matchup to set up Championship weekend with the dreaded Pinks. History shows that Turkey’s Nest broke away from Enid’s in the 1st WSL season. The Turks finally defeat the Pinks in a playoff game and walk over to pay St. Anslem for a storybook finish.

After the anthem was played the game, Turkey’s Nest rolled out to an impressive 7 run lead in the top of the 1st. There was no denying this group as all that was left was the final tally. The Turks win the day and their 2nd WSL Championship.

It’s nobody’s business, But The Turks.

2018 Season Champions – CLEMS

They weren’t the heroes the league wanted… They were the heroes the league deserved. Battleship Clemerica raised the WSL trophy in 2018 after a long history of being what many people would consider a “non-competitive” team. In fact, Clems is one of the oldest teams in the league and never even won a playoff game until 2018. Their unlikely run to the championship is an inspiration to several of the old school teams who helped established the league but never got a chance to be the last team standing.

2017 Season Champions – 3 KINGS

No one cares.

2016 Season Champion – 3 KINGS

The season things finally came together for a team that was circled on the schedule as a “gimme win” for years. In 2013 owner Matty No Times and Chairman Nick Tomeo came together and started to assemble the pieces for this championship run. Year one saw an over 500 record and a second round playoff visit, years 2 and 3 they started becoming a regular season powerhouse with heartbreaking first round exits. Finally year 4 of the grand plan…with a couple more key additions, a new manager and the team feeling like more than just a team and more like a family…battling through regular season hardships woke up a sleeping dragon. Pitching, Defense, Strategy and POWER (mostly power) led to a one of a kind playoff run. After years spent in the basement….3 Kings reside in the penthouse. Bow down to The Kings.

2015 Season Champion – RBar

After 13 years in the league and 3 semi-final appearances, R-Bar finally shed the “can’t win it all” label, to claim the 2015 WSL Championship. The roller-coaster day ended with a 10-3 triumph over the dynastic Black Betty.
The day began with an instant classic, nail biter versus Enid’s. D-Lo’s defensive heroics were absolutely necessary in the 8-7 comeback victory. This set the stage for R-Bar’s Championship game debut.
The title game started out as a pitcher’s duel, with both hurlers throwing up zeros for 3 innings. Things changed drastically in the 4th , when John Rocchio plated 3 with a bomb to right, giving R-Bar a lead we would never relinquish. Bubbs continued his Cy Young award dominance until the very end, when a double play ended the championship drought. In the finals Bubbs had 3 hits. John Rocchio chipped in with 4 RBI. Doing his best “Willis Reed” impression, Bobby Knapp defied team Doctors and his wife to get on base 5 times on Championship day.
Most championship summaries end with that last paragraph. I want to thank the entire league for making it an extremely memorable day.

2014 Season Champion – Turkey’s Nest

After returning to the championship for the first time since losing to the Betties in 2009, the Turkey’s Nest comes out hot and reclaims the Joe Fashion Fiorentino Trophy! The Boys of Summer live up to the hype and their name, and win it all!

2013 Season Champion – Spike Hill

The 2013 Championship saw Spike Hill battle Black Betty for the third straight year, to the delight of all fans in the league.  In another low scoring contest, Betty took a 6 to 4 lead into the 9th propelled by a clutch 3-run bomb hit by rookie Aiden Sleeper driving in JB$ and Super Dave in the 8th.  Spike Hill chipped away with an RBI single by Matt Silverman in the 8th to make it 6 to 5 and worked around a dangerous double by Mike Camarra in the top of the 9th which threatened to pad Betty’s lead.  Spike Hill started the bottom of the inning with singles by Leo Otero and Michael O’Malley, followed by a Bobby Maxwell double which tied the game at 6 to 6 and set the stage for Alex Dubin to plate Kelly Southerland for the walk off 7 to 6 win. Classic game between two teams who are alone in the league in hoping for another “all black” final in 2014.

2012 Season Champion – Black Betty

After being dismantled by Spike Hill in 2011, Black Betty regrouped and bounced back to regain their status as champions of the WSL. Both teams battled hard and were evenly matched. Black Betty managed to get on top early and hold onto the lead with a decisive 8-4 win. It was the first time in three seasons that Black Betty defeated Spike Hill and it couldn’t have come at a more opportune time. Congrats to Black Betty for regaining their title.

2011 Season Champion – Spike Hill

After a half of a decade long dynasty the Great and All Powerful Black Betty is shockingly outscored 5-2 in a fantastic match-up that had us all on the edge of our lawn chairs for the extent of the game! Led by Mike O’Malley, Spike Hill plays fantastic defense, gets timely hits and great pitching to take down the champions. Congrats to Spike Hill who rallied together and showed real team chemistry to put an end to the Black Era!

2010 Season Champion – Black Betty

After a shaky season, Black Betty again advances to the championship to face their long-time rival and 2007 Championshipopponents, Reel 2 Reel. It was a well fought game with Black Betty coming out victorious, securing their 5th Championship in a row. Will there be a team to step up to take away the trophy and bring the league out of the Blackness? All we can do is wait and find out in 2011…

2009 Season Champion – Black Betty

Returning to the one game final format, Black Betty does it again, coming back from a 5 run deficit in the 8th to beat the Turkeys Nest in the bottom of the 9th inning, taking their 4th straight title.

2008 Season Champion – Black Betty

Black Betty beats Enid’s to win the WSL Championship for the 3rd year in a row. In a best of 3 series, BB took the first game 16-12 and the second, 12-6 on a sloppy, rain and mud soaked field.

2007 Season Champion – Black Betty

This year marked the first time the championship was decided in a best-of-three series. After a dropping the first game to Reel 2 Reel, Black Betty battled back to decisively in the next two games, to defeat R2R and defend their title.

2006 Season Champion – Black Betty

After squeaking by AT in the semi-finals, Black Betty beats Mendoza Line for their first WSL title. Black Betty, one of the original teams of the WSL would finally win their first championship. This would later be known as the beginning of the Black Dynasty.

2005 Season Champion – Enid’s

After a four year drought, Enid’s beats Mendoza 9-1.  This game is known as the end of the “dead ball era” and the next year there would now be called balls and strikes.

2004 Season Champion – Mendoza Line

Mendoza Line beats Enid’s. The end.

2003 Season Champion – AT All-Stars

AT successfully defended their title against an upstart Turkey’s Nest squad. In beating the Turkeys in the championship, AT became the first ever WSL repeat champion.

2002 Season Champion – AT All-Stars

AT All-Stars, in their inaugural season, topped Pete’s in a dramatic, rain-soaked championship game that went into extra innings and had to be postponed and carried over for a week as lightning threatened the fans huddled under the big tree by field 1.

2001 Season Champion – Pete’s Candy Store

In the first official season with a schedule, a commissioner, and a playoffs, Pete’s beat Enid’s in the championship game in front of a large crowd on the baseball field.

2000 Season Champion – Enid’s

There were six teams when the 2000 season began (Enid’s, Pete’s, Black Betty, Sweetwater, Diner, Ale House). After the Turkey’s Nest split off from Enid’s mid-season, there were seven teams. There were no official playoffs that year, but there was an end of season round robin tournament among the top four teams (Enid’s, Pete’s Turkeys and Black Betty). Enid’s went 3-0 in the round robin tournament and thus became the de facto 2000 Season Champion.
