WSL Covid-19 Rules

The following rules must be followed to help ensure the safety of all players.

  1. Everyone must wear a mask that fully covers their nose and mouth at all times while on the field
    1. This includes: players in the field, the batter, the on deck batter, the umpire and the base coaches.
    1. Please follow the latest CDC guidelines on how to select and wear masks.
  2. If someone on your team tests positive for covid-19 and you have a game scheduled for the following Sunday, it will be postponed. All attempts will be made to re-scheduled the game if possible.
  3. All players who came in contact with the player who tested positive should follow state guidelines on testing / quarantining.
  4. Members of the opposing team are not required to quarantine or get tested but it is highly suggested to get a test if you came in close contact with an infected player (on the field or otherwise).
  5. Each individual player is encouraged to frequently sanitize their hands between innings and especially before at bats.
  6. Each player must review the Covid-19 Athletics Safety Plan and Checklist.
  7. To reduce contact, umpires should never touch the ball.
  8. Each team will have a designated ball that they use throughout the game. There will be no “new ball” in the middle of the 5th inning.
  9. Teams will not be allowed to share bats with members of the other team.
  10. If you are experiencing any symptoms do not attend the game. If your team does not have enough players, they may recruit a guest player.
    1. Per GUEST PLAYERS Rule #1: Teams may recruit guest players from other WSL rosters in order to avoid forfeiting, playing with less than 10 players, or the requisite number of women. If a team has 10 healthy, rostered players (8 men, 2 women) present they cannot pick up any additional guest players.
  11. If many games are cancelled due to Covid-19 protocol and we do not have the opportunity to make up all games, we may swap out any/all of the last 3 games for make-up games. If not all teams are able to play the same number of games, we will continue to use winning percentage to determine divisional winners and playoff seeding.
  12. Any rulings on individual player eligibility will be assessed on a case by case basis by the Rules Committee. If you are applying  for an eligibility exception, including any absence due to covid-19, support documentation is always appreciated when it’s available and the player is comfortable sharing.

WSL 2021 Covid Mask Policy

Mask Policy:

All Masks All The Time – NO exceptions

This includes Bench, Fielding and Batting. We ask Managers to be the ones enforcing the rules and supporting the umps when they give players warnings.

Masks must be worn over the mouth and nose and not hanging on the ears or around the neck.

We hope it never comes to this but it any player(s) who continue to violate the mask policy they will be ejected. If a player is ejected and refuses to leave the park the team will receive a forfeit and the game is over.

Umpires will do their best to work with a Team’s manager to resolve any player issues.

Not Wearing a Mask Penalty:

1st Offense No Mask – Warning
2nd Offense (same Player) – Automatic out or Play is dead
3rd Offense – Player ejected from the game and their spot may not be replaced by another player

No Mask/Not Wearing Properly – Batting:

1st Offense No Mask – Warning
2nd Offense – Automatic Out – Batter is Called out and we move to the next scheduled player.

No Mask/Not Wearing Properly – Fielding:

1st Offense No Mask – Warning
2nd Offense – Fielder Not wearing a mask the play is dead and the batter is awarded (1) base. Any out will be nullified. (example – Ball in play is a double play but the shortstop didn’t have a mask on. All players are safe and no outs recorded.
