WSL Championship Day- Preview

Thu, Sep 19, 2013

Then there were Four….The Final Four. Yeaaahhhhhh!, Whoooopie!!! Looks like everyone wanted a rematch of last year’s Semi’s, well everyone on these four teams anyway. The cream of the crop has risen and familiar foes will battle again to reach the apex of the 2013 WSL season and be crowned the Best Softball Team in our little world. That’s really all that matters- our little world. Can Good Co. and duckduck serve up some nice revenge pie on Sunday? Will Spike Hill more decisively dispatch the Quack Squad this year and be in their 3rd straight Final? Never mind 3 straight appearances, Black Betty has a chance to advance to their 8th straight Final if they can contain Capt. Calves and crew. Come with us down the “preview” path one last time this year, we promise to hold your hand.

11AM

Field # 1: duckduck vs. Spike Hill (Shortz)

O’Malley spent the week staking out the duckduck camp

Well this seems familiar…Spike Hill and R2R Ducks in the Final Four, but the road there seemed a bit different this year. Not for Spike Hill, good lord no; they’ve been their usual boringly awesome selves. I’m talking about duckduck, the team who’s ruined all you playoff bracket predictions by finally being awesome. With a rough season behind us, we seem to be peaking at the right time, and hope to donkey punch Spike Hill like we’ve been accustomed to in years past. You see, we used to have this team’s number, (no way!). Way. I even dug through our video archives to find proof.

This video displays us beating Spike Hill (burn on you). It was also posted in 2011 and marks the last time we beat Spike Hill (burn on us).

Will Spike Hill fall to the “Davids” of this season? Or will the Duck choke on their own breadcrumbs? One thing’s for sure, there will be NO “Mark just got pegged in the back with the ball as he runs to cover home, but there’s no play at home and why is the ball being thrown?…aaaaaaaand we lose” ending this time.

Field # 2: Black Betty vs. Good Company (GBlack)

Meow meow

Both these teams booted the higher seeds last week, #2 and #3 respectively, to set up a rematch of last year’s semi final. These two teams faced off twice during the regular season, as well. One went the way of the Pink’s in Week 13, (and since I am being paid by Cesar now), Cap’n Calves was sensational that Sunday afternoon. Never before has slow pitch softball been mastered on the mound like it was that day. The instant WSL Hall of Famer held The Betty to 1 run, winning the contest 15-1, basically by himself. That game featured the return of Matt Herman and a perfect 4-4 day at the plate by Stacy “Death Rowe”. The rematch came in Week 16 and boy was it a nail bitter. WSL AARP Legend, JB$, held the Pinks at bay for the first part of the game while The Betty built a comfortable lead. But GC’s off-season dancing lessons were well ingrained in their muscle memory and they performed the Ol’ Chip-away dance. Awesome things happened in that gamee. BB’s Andrew Killian was 4-5, Wally hit a clutch homer, Shortz saved Annabelle Camarra from a killer flying bat and there was a play at the plate that decided the game. Betty escaped with a 10-9 victory. Will Good Co. take this rubber match as they did last week vs. The Bums? Can Cap’n Calves continue playing the greatest softball that has ever been played? Do the veterans of BB have enough in the tank to make an unprecedented 8th consecutive Championship appearance? Like we’re really going to tell you- find out for yourselves!

Check out who makes it to the Big Dance and which Division gets bitch-slapped in the All-star game.  Are we leaving anything out???

Only the END OF SEASON PARTY!!!

After the Championship, roll on over to Good Company (same place as last year- 10 Hope Street between Havemeyer & Roebling).

There’ll be drinks, a Corn-hole tourney, videos, awards and a plethora of other activities that you DO NOT WANT TO MISS.

And really, what else you have planned beside Softball-related activities???

…Good answer.

See you out there.

Toodles,
