Week 17 – Recap

Tue, Aug 21, 2012

WSL End Of Season Party is coming up soon! Stay tuned!!

AT is crushed by their loss to Spike Hill.

The Clems/Soft Spot game was cancelled do to a wedding. If you see Zak the Yeti captain out there next week make sure to congratulate him on landing one sweet & spunky lady, Mrs. Sandy Haviland! Man the park was quiet without Soft Spot…right?

Not wanting to miss out on a little fan action, Spike Hill played their game over on field one in front of the homeless crew, yup…they’re still there! And they appear to be multiplying. AT gave Spike Hill a scare, just down by a run heading into the sixth, but then the defending champs knocked in 5 to take a six run lead. The All Stars bounced right back to cut the lead in half in the 7th, but The Hill were able to match those three runs in the 8th to take it home with a scoreless 9th. That new guy who doesn’t qualify for the playoffs that SH keep whining about doesn’t like when we take BP on the other field during their ninth inning, everyone better stop it or he’ll…he’ll… pick up a loose ball and throw it back to you as HARD as he can!!! Mr. Fun hit a homer and so did some dude named Mridul.

Camarra flips out over his walk-off grand slam!

The Turkey’s Nest Teachers/Black Betty game lived up to the hype as the Game of the Week as both teams duked it out for first place in the South. TNT is a very solid team, with great hitters and fought back with the Betty and didn’t give in one inch. They made awesome plays, hit the ball hard and did everything right defensively. The Betty came into the bottom of the 9th, trailing 5-4. They managed to load the bases, and with two outs, Camarra came to the plate and delivered a walk-off grandslam homerun. The Betty clinches first place in the South, but has to wait to see what happens with Good Co, in order to lock down the #2 overall seed.

Amazingly enough, Newmyer was freshly shaved before the game began.

The Nest had clutch hurler Zac back on the mound and as fill-in Captain this week against The Gibson. We missed his dry humor much more than we missed his underhanded knuckleballs. He’s earned a shared recap of the week spot! “Turkey’s Nest, without fearless leader Jordan Heller and some other prominent bats won with defense and timely hitting against the Gibson 12-4.

Happy B-day, Mitch-a-licious!

Led by Andy Breving and Trish Harnetiaux up the middle gobbling up every ball hit their way, the Turkeys defense was in fine form all day.  Chris (The Viking) Newmyer hit a mega-grand slam to the gap in center to put the game away late, and every Turkey reached base during the contest.  As the season draws to a close, The Turkeys look to get everybody back in the lineup for the playoffs.” The Nest enjoys a cake game, but The Gibson enjoys some real cupcakealicious post game partying right up the block! Happy Quatro-Cinco Mitch…and stuff like that.

So, uh, yeah…this guy hits the ball really, really far.

Petes relocates Mendoza to 4th in the south. The Candystore never trailed against The Line but did give up enough runs in the late innings for ‘Doza to tie things up. But then Ian showed up in the 8th to save the day by bolstering the defense and allowing Pete’s to hold on and go ahead for a two run victory! Godsy strikes out for the first time in his WSL career, batting lefty with yet another injury. Painkiller mixed with Nestarita induced shenanigans in the weeks to follow, I’m sure. Ladies, be on the look-out! The Candystore sweeps The Line in 2012!!

2nd Chance vs Good Co. Shit….I blew it. If EJ was there I’m sure he was sportin’ a cool set of shades that may or may not be Wally’s. Cesar’s sunburn from last week is peeling away.

Good Co wins.

Bobby hits another bomb!

Rbar jumped to a five-zip lead against the Loggers,  started by Bobby’s 8th homer of the year.  The Bums would extend the lead to 9 -1 through four, highlighted by Chico’s leaping snag.  The grab was so nice that the homeless guy yelled out “You must be hanging out with Batman cause you Robin.” The Loggers knocked in a few and cut the lead to 9-6.  But Josh would go deep again a line drive that hit the pole in right . Finally the Rbar scored 5 in the eighth to put the game away paced  by big hits from Matt, Chico, Amy and former Logger DLO. Another great week for Chico and Matt who had three hits apiece. The Rbar offense really seems to have woken up scoring 54 runs in their last three games.

Great pic of Matty!

In a one run loss to the Reelers, Three Kings Mike get a shared Recap of the Week spot with this baby!

“born to lose, i’ve lived my life in vain

all my dreams have always caused me pain.

looking for that elusive 3rd win (for the last 12 weeks), the kings fell 1 run short…eternally.  i’m beginning to think matty no times sold his soul for that playoff win last season.  you can only take a lead into the bottom of the 9th so many times and lose, right?  RIGHT?!?!  the WSL is making a habit of walking off on us this season!  that bottom of the 9th inning script on sunday was all too familiar…a couple errors and a line drive to finish it off.  kudos to R2R for adding to the list.  they chipped away at an early deficit and never let up.  at least we’re the home team next week, so we got that going for us.”

What happened to the bearded man??

OKAY LETS GET PUMPED!! So our WSL big players on Repetti have made it to the Black-Top Championship Game once again this year and if you respect the game these guys bring, you should probably go root on Silverman’s crew of JL, Leo, Godsy, Jakey-Poo, H, Sparkles, Camarra, Joelle & Baby-Boy to “Cha-Ching” cash in on the big $$$ this Sunday!! Best of three starting at NOON on the field closest to the Nest. They’d love our support.

So Sunday then,

– Carly
