Week 12 – Preview

Thu, Jul 12, 2012

First off, hats off to Gerald for a great recap in filling in this past week! It was like a breath of fresh hot air. Speaking of hot air, I heard last weekend was a real scorcher to say the least. The forecast for week 12 looks a lot less sunny with a possibility of raining on our parade.

If you are on one of the teams that played in one of the pre-games that were scheduled around postponements you might see some discrepancy in the standings, but don’t fret…it should all work out in the end. Let’s get to the preview as we all head back to our 2nd round of inter-division play! Only 7 games left before the play-offs!

The Teachers are still sitting pretty on top of the South and they face the Candystore who faltered against Good Co last Sunday to take their first loss since week #5. In the game of the week, a strong showing by Pete’s could put 1st place up for grabs as the top clubs close in on TNT. The Teachers are going to need their MVP pitcher to work some magic on the mound in this one.

Meanwhile, we get the Kings against 2nd Chance. 3K’s last win came in week #4 and there is word that 2nd Chance has made some quick additions to the roster right before the deadline to try and make a midseason run. These two match-up pretty well numbers-wise and tatoos-wise so expect some real eye-candy over on Field 2.

The Yetti's doing things that Yetti's do.

After a week off, the Bums return this Sunday to face the Yeti’s who head back to the South at an even .400. The Spot is definitely looking Soft in 2012 and needs to make a big run starting now if they want to avoid a tough playoff schedule. We could get a better grasp on the RBar club if we could see the whole team out there for one of these weekends. Maybe they should just schedule the rest of their games against everyone in the last two Sundays. Quadruple headers!

Talk of perfection is starting to stir on the Spike Hill bench. O’Malley is giddy with expectation and has even been spotted speaking words of encouragement to his bats while picnicing in the park. Leo, when not rummaging through the garbage for NYC memorabilia, is “liking” everything softball related on FB and Jake has started drinking his morning coffee out of a 32 oz styrofoam cup. These boys are focused and have their eyes on the prize. The Turkey’s Nest would like nothing better than to rip the rug from under the Hill and steal their glory this coming Sunday. Don’t be surprised to find confetti cannons filling a bat rack over by the Nest bench.

Cesar has now alphabetized the Home Run Leader Board and still not finding his name on top had this to comment: “I’m beginning to commence to prepare to update the stuff.”

Mendoza has settled into 2nd place in the South with a little win against the Gibson last week, but face tied-for-third Black Betty. Doza is one game up on them this season with a week#1 W, but Betty is looking strong just two runs shy against SH for a sweep of the North. and on a three game streak. The Line leads the league in runs scored so with some solid D action they’ll look to break the Betty and guarantee to stay at least only one game outta first place.

On the other side, it’s AT against Gibson.  I owe the All Star coolers more than my share of brewskis, so I’ll be filling you up pre-game as a courtesy this week. Please feel free to slam away!! AT is only one game out of a three way tie for 2nd place in the North after going .500 in their old South division play. They’ll be missing star 3B Daniel who did something seriously gross to his ankle and should be on the DL for a couple more weeks.

WSL NEWSBREAK: Cesar has just legally changed his name to Asar….nope still no good…resorting.

R2R is going to need another MVP-like performance from Barndog to get the win over Good Co.

Clems racked up their 3rd win and is all set for a go against the Loggers, who didn’t fair well in the opposing division stretch going .250 with only one win again 3K. This is a desperation game with both teams fighting to stay out of that last place slot in the South. Skip the pre-game Bloody Marys at Keg & Lantern and come ready to light things up on field one, Loggers, or the Battleship is going to smoke you like their 4th of July swine.

Over on field two Reel 2 Reel better not pick week #12 for a throw-back game because the Good Co are on a roll. The only team to sweep in the opposing division play, they are sitting in 2nd place in the North and are scorching through a 6 game winning streak. Even the little pinkies are hitting home runs so the Reelers best be formulating a game plan if they have hopes of moving into the upper tier of their division and not falling to a .500 average.

Jake "The Rake" Crushin' Shots!

WSL NEWSBREAK: Mr. Fisher has updated the godforsaken HR Board! Hallelujah! And John Louis has taken a strong lead!! Could this be back to back HR champs for The Nest?

Remember, if you also want a chance to post your family and friends album on the site and make fun of us, then you too could volunteer for a guest recap! Sam from Pete’s is definitely due for a go at it!

Thank you, Gerald!! I seriously appreciate the great job you did!  More shots than Jake at an open bar…niiiiice.

I’m back and I’m bad,

– Carly

Holland’s 2 Cents:
OK, thanks to Cesar, the HR Leaderboard is updated and live and so is the quick screenshot of it on the left. Also the Who Would You Play? has also been updated. Lot’s of exciting and subtle movements. Looks like the very top of the field is holding strong and the very bottom is set, but lots of little changes in the middle. It’s going to be awesome baby! Good to go for Week 12!!
