Week 6 – Recap

Wed, May 23, 2012

So, we all got our games in on time and enjoyed a beautiful day before our break. Oh, before we get started I wanted to remind you not to tell Godsy that O’Malley destroyed one of the first base bags. He’ll be really pissed at him. Anyway, to the recap!

Saloon For Life! ...well, except for post game. We like Mugs, too.

Starting out in the South, the Mendoza Line loses their second straight, this one to Pete’s by a run. PCS racked up their most runs on the season this Sunday, with help from a couple new rookies. Thank goodness those guys showed-up, since the Veteran boys were all apparently so distracted by Mike Camarra’s shirtless umping that they just kept mumbling about switching to Big Bud Lites.

In the North Division, Good Co 16/2nd Chance 14. That’s Respectable!

R2R-3 / 3K-2 = That aint Algebra, that’s the final score!

Jerome catches his breath as pinky spectator Mike V. reminded him, “YOU’RE ON THE BOARD!”

On Field Two, The RBar does it again! With most of the team on the annual Ohio trip, they played with a real skeleton crew. I’m talkin’ Greg @ 3B here! (I saw him get a hit and and make a play in the field!) Cho from the Loggers tweeked his knee and had to come out early. Despite El Train sideline support, the Loggers lose a rough one, mostly from Bum Game Ball recipient Jerome who went 4-5 including a double & a HR. The Wall steps up every year when they Ohio crew needs him.

No one saw O'Malley rip up first base. This never happened.

O’Malley gets the recap of the week spot for keeping his reigning Champs perfect still, and stepping into first place in the league. “It was hard fought game (he literally starts every recap with this statement), but we pulled away with a couple big innings.  Weird game – both teams had the bases loaded with no outs and didn’t score.  We both had base running errors – they probably had a couple more than us, which made a difference. We outhit them a bit and made fewer errors in the field, that also probably made a difference.  You should also put in there that I pitched around G Black – I didn’t mean to, but I did.  I also pitched around their catcher – and by pitched around, I mean that I walked them both twice.  What can I say – I’m a generous man.” The game of the week didn’t disappoint. Congrats to AT on a nice run! (Also, completely unsoftball related, GBlacks Gchat status is: “Available!” That cracks me up.)

Who’s the new guy in the Black Betty shirt here...Looks familiar...Uhhh-Ohhh.

At the same time, in the Southside first place match-up, Black Betty falls to the Turkey’s Teachers who remain in control of the division. TNT played some solid D anchored by their ladies Kristin “The Wolf” who sustained an injury on an errant throw but bounced right back to play a solid 3B and Trish on first. TNT stepped up on offense in the late innings including a blast by Judd the Studd once again! He was 4-5 with 6 RBI’s. Shane and Miguel are back after starting off the season on the DL and also provided some key hits to solidify TNT’s lead in the division. They take the Betty by 5.

Despite both having great days at the plate, Christie and John had something a little more special to brag about! Little Jack Louis!!

Zac’s pitching skills proved to be too much for the Gibson, except for Todd Kovner who got his first and the team’s first HR for the season! Turkey John Louis also gets another HR, Shafer cringes. Good fun…for The Nest.

Soft Spot 17/Clems18: How can we not also give Breeze a recap spot with this gem after winning a bet, finally, that he placed with Pizza? “Holy Bracioly! Took the Battleship nine tries but finally took down them Poolyetis! After going up by 4 in the first , Clem’s found themselves in a familiar spot down by 3 in the eighth! But a string of clutch hitting by Liea, ballsy base running by Stryker and Walker, and a few McCarren bounces, the Battle was tied up! Great defense by Nags, filling in for the Markow, held the score. I finally shot one by the Yeti shift and gusted my way home with singles by Wiggans and Nags to get our first walk-off winner! A barns worth of victory beers later, and a Lasagna on the way! Clemericans everywhere are still celebrating! Sent from iCaptain Clemerica”

I wanted to mention a couple of big birthday’s coming up this weekend!
First off, DLo is turning 3O! And she’s celebrating in style this Saturday starting at 3pm at the South Street Seaport, so screw those pick-up games in the “other league.” Here is the party link. If you are not on FB shoot Me, Katie or Melissa an email for details!! Next Up! Our Little Jeff Gutowski is turning the big 4-0 this coming Tuesday and he’s having quite a bash at The 2nd Chance Saloon starting at 8. It’s on Grand Street between Manhattan and Leonard and everyone who is anyone will be there! Cap off your Memorial Weekend with…more booze! Here’s the link to that party!

Lastly, let’s get a pick up game going this Sunday! Come on down if you’re on a team or not! I’m bringing a TON of water balloons to bomb the Zombies when they try and parade through the fields…again this year.

It’s going to be like the nicest weekend ever, let’s not waste it!
