It’s that time of year again!! It’s time for The Soft BALL!!!!

For those of you who missed it last year, The Soft BALL was a super fun night where the Saturday leaguers got to get a little dressed up. Drink, mingle, dance, etc. It was held at The Gibson. 75 people came and it was a blast!!

This year it will be on Friday, August 6th at 10pm at K&M (corner of North 8th and Roebling). Admission is free. Pictures will be free. Bud and Bud light will be on special as well as other goodies. There will be a DJ and other surprises as well!! The invitation also goes out to the Sunday league as well this year. This will be quite a party!

Please let your teams know about it. I hope to see you all there! Last year we had a prize for the team who had the most members show up…

Haiti benefit

Will & Gina from Reel to Reel have formed a non-profit (impactayiti.org) to help feed Haitian children affected by the earthquake. They’re hosting an upcoming benefit show at 17 Frost Gallery in Williamsburg, Brooklyn on Saturday, June 5. Come show your support and help provide food and materials for the children of the Bon Samaritan orphanage (located outside the Haitian town of Cabaret). Your $25 (or more!) suggested donation includes live music, raffles, & complimentary beer and wine. That’s right, read those last 4 words again out loud.

Wednesday Night Lights

The world-famous WSL Wednesday Night Pick-Up Game starts this Wednesday, April 21, in McCarren Park under the lights. All WSLers, Saturday Leaguers, and friends are welcome. A one-time payment of $20 gets you in the game every Wednesday night from now through to September. The inimitable Tommy Bravo has been named the new Wednesday Night Commish. GAMES START AT 8PM.

2010 Softball Kickoff Party

1:00PM-9:00PM Saturday April 10th, 2010

Kickoff the 2010 softball season right—afternoon/evening party at The
Gibson, right by the park. For your suggested donation of $10 at the
door to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society < lls.org > you’ll get one free
drink, free burgers and dogs from the grill and a great party with
awesome drink specials just for us. We are going to set up a
tournament on the Wii, and we have great prizes to give away, and some
bar tabs and other prizes to raffle off, like Yankees Tickets, Mets
Tickets, a snowboard, and free meals at local restaurants. So come on
out and reconnect with everyone and get ready for a great season in
McCarren Park!

Former WSL’er Needs Your Help

Emily Wilson, an original Turkey’s Nester, is raising money to self-publish a photography book about the Williamsburg art and music scene from 1997 to 2005. The early years of the WSL will be included, as she recognizes our league as something that helped shape the culture of the neighborhood. Black Betty WSL Champs... again! The Betty takes its 4th straight title.

After besting the RBar in their semi-final game, the Turkey’s Nest would have the opportunity to challenge Black Betty for the Championship.

Following a decisive win over UP in the semis, Black Betty falls behind to the Turkey’s nest but battles back from a 5 run deficit in the 8th to win the game in the bottom of the 9th inning. In an exciting finale, with the league rooting against them, Black Betty wins their 4th straight title.

Can they win one for the thumb in ‘10? Or will there be a team to step up to take away the trophy and bring the league out of the Blackness?
