Final 2017 Message from the Commish

Wed, Sep 27, 2017

Well, another year has come and gone in the Williamsburg Softball League, and another year we have proven that this is the best league in the city. Not only in co-ed slow pitch competitiveness, but in how awesome the people are as well. Hell, it’s probably the best in the world! Let’s not forget that or take this league for granted.

Before I begin my final message of 2017, I want to say thank you to all those who came up to me this Sunday and gave me so much love and support and thanks for all I do. It was incredibly appreciated, but honestly, I do it out of the love I have for the league, the people and what it stands for. When we were doing the Hall of Fame and I was looking out at all the faces and children, I literally got choked up. So, thank you for all that you do!

But, this league runs because of ALL the people that do it with me. It’s not magic, it’s not on accident, it’s a lot of hard work and putting your neck out there and I really, really appreciate it! Thank you to the Rules Committee; Breezy, Justin, McNelis, Kristen Pisanelli, Leo, Nat the Bat, Pete Hoffman, Richie, Steph Gall and Zak Haviland. Thank you for upholding the rules of the league and putting yourself out there. I know it’s not easy, but I appreciate all you do to make this league amazing.

To Leo, who manages and runs the umpires, you have done a FANTASTIC job in coalescing the umps, and making it an incredible crew. Dare I say they are better than most “professional” umps I have seen in other leagues. I asked/tricked you into taking the job two years ago and you did it and have ran with it. Thank you!!

To Gerald! Thank you for putting together the fields every single Sunday of the season. We went through an entire year without a single rainout, but there were a couple Saturday’s where we had wicked rain and the fields were an absolutely mess on Sunday and you got your crew down there and got those fields in shape so all of us could play every Sunday. Thanks, buddy!

To Justin! The Rainman of the WSL! Thank you for all your hard work with schedules, tracking games played, home runs, also for the Fall League. It’s a lot of paperwork and I’m glad I don’t have to do it! Thank you, dude!

To Lou! Dude came up with the Hall of Fame Game, the Memorial Day Tourney, the 4th of July Tourney and managed the Olds to a victory over those whippersnapper Younguns. You’re one of the reasons this league is amazing and keeping all of us engaged.

To Graham! This guy calls me up one night and invites me out for drinks and he has this amazing idea for the Hall of Fame and he organized it, got those wonderful jackets and we put on a ceremony that was outstanding! A great guy and someone who loves this league, thank you for this great idea and for making it happen!

To Erik! You make us all look like all-stars! Thank you for coming down week after week, taking your pictures and sharing them. You are one of the people who make this legit!!

Congrats to 3 Kings for winning it all. Back-to-Back Champs! And to Spike Hill, Kilo and Turkey’s. I know it sucks to lose but you made it to the last Sunday of the year and that’s all you can hope for. That’s nothing to hang your heads about. I loved watching all the games, they were awesome!!

Finally, to all the managers and players and fans who are involved in the league. We all hope you had a great year and are coming back next season to play ball.

See most of you in the Fall and to the rest, I’ll see you in 2018!
