2016 WSL Champs – 3 Kings

Hellooooo Players, Fans and Managers of the WSL…

I just wanted to drop a final message for 2016 to everyone.

Wow…what a crazy final Sunday in the WSL! Such great softball being played, great people hanging out and watching the games, fantastic competition and hustle, sportsmanship and overall, a pretty freaking beautiful day to play softball.

I am so proud of this league and all the players in it. This is the best goddamn co-ed league in the city, and we are all apart of what makes it that way! I had countless people come up to me this past year and tell me they play in leagues all over the city, but the WSL is always tops. I am very proud of that and we’re going to continue to make it great.

And this is who makes it great: All the people on the Rules Committee, Rich, McNelis, Justin, Zak, Megan, Breezy and Pete Hoffman. As I said before, these are the people who agreed to take on the rough job of making the rules, enforcing them and putting their softball necks out there to make this league fair and awesome. We know we have some work to do this fall/winter for next season, but I can always count on these peeps to do a great job.

Leo for running the umps. I recruited him for 2 years to help me and I finally tricked convinced him into doing it for me. This was his first season and he did a hell of a job scheduling umps for the 160+ games we play all season. Thank you!!! And of course to ALL the umps who risk friendships making those difficult calls every Sunday haha you all kick ass and I still prefer you over any umps anywhere!

To Justin Moench! This guy tabulates all the games played for every damn player in the league for playoff qualifications. He tracks HRs. He sometimes helps sets the fields up. He helps out in the Fall League, and all he gets for doing this is a silly t-shirt and me giving him shout outs. Without this dude, my job would be a LOT harder. You’re the man!

To Natalie Chaquinga for being the Mistress of Entertainment. I was so sad to hear she was going to move back to Chicago this year that, seriously, I teared up at this diner we were eating at. No joke! And then, when she surprised me (and everyone!) that she was staying, I was ecstatic. She’s the most social gal in the league and she planned all the parties, and they were great! Can’t wait to have some more parties this Fall and next season!!

And for this Championship Sunday, big thank you for Ados for providing the sound equipment and DJing! We should do this every Sunday!! To Breezy for providing a generator. Thank you to Sean for letting us have the End of Season Party at RSC and for getting those pinatas! Big, big, big thank you to the All-Stars who came down and played and celebrated with everyone. To the ladies Shelly and Clinchy who pitched. To John Siccone for managing the Fashion Division.

And to the most overlooked dude in the league, Erik Penzich!! This guy comes down every week and makes us all look like goddamn superstars. If you haven’t done so, please, please, please buy pictures from his site: https://www.flickr.com/photos/81844861@N00/sets/72157674418762865/
I have and they look amazing! I got one for my parents, my mom, and of course a big one of me above my bed. Thank you, Erik!!!

I say it every year, every week, this league wouldn’t be amazing if it were not for all these people joining in and making it amazing.

And this is what I have to say to ANYONE who has anything bad to say about the league: HELP OUT!! If you think we’re missing something, join up and fix it. Make it better!! This league doesn’t run on magic and beer. There’s lots of time, effort and energy devoted to it, so if you think it sucks and want to make it better, come on over and work with us, or shut your trap! You know how to get hold of me!

To all the teams on Championship Sunday. You all played great. I know for the teams who lost, it can be bittersweet. Trust me, I’ve been there! But, you have nothing to be sad or ashamed about. You and your teams are at the top and that’s something all of us bottom teams can take our caps off and look up to. Congratulations!!

And finally, to the 3 Kings. Congrats, you did it!! You played a hell of a playoffs and deserve that championship. The afterparty was pretty damn epic! Your team is a lot of fun and I think we can all agree that the 3 Kings should hangout more often! If you can bring fireworks and deer heads each Sunday, this would really kick our partying up a notch!! Awesome work, 3 Kings! Please take care of the Joe Fashion Fiorentino Trophy!

Well, that’s it for 2016. Hope you all had a great season and enjoyed playing. We’ll see you all next year in March for Spring Training!!

Take care!
