Message from the Commish…Double Header Sunday Re-Cap

Mon, Jun 13, 2016

I don’t think it sucked…

Hellooooo Managers, Players, Fans and Groupies of the WSL!!

Alright, we completed our first Double Header Sunday of the year and I think it wasn’t a total disaster. We played 10 games, I think there was roughly 98934934 home runs hit, give or take a few, and hearts were won and broken. What a day.

But, there are a few things I want to mention…and I’ll probably bring them up later this week since we’ll probably all collectively forget by then.

1) Umps need to get the games rolling faster. I love our WSL umps and appreciate all you guys (and gals!) do. But, let’s start our early games on-time, so the later games aren’t so late. And let’s move the game along in-between innings. I know we got all our friends and we love to chat. Players like to argue calls between innings, we like to take selfies, post on Twitter, all of that but we need to make it fast between innings. I don’t really think a pitcher needs 10 warm up pitches in the 8th inning. If you can keep it going, then the following game will start on-time and leave them time for BP.

2) Managers it’s also your responsibility to keep these games rolling. I know it’s tough and we got a lot of things happening, but keeping everything moving helps all the teams, allows the teams in the next game to warm up, all of that.

3) Batting Practice – Here’s the deal, if you want BP, then Umps and Managers need to get the game before your game rolling quickly. We cannot do BP and hit into other teams’ games that are going on. If there is a game happening and you’re waiting on the other field, by all means, take some infield practice, hit into the fences, warm up, etc…but let’s not hit into their game. But if we can all keep our games moving so the teams after yous can get BP and in turn, if we all work together, we can get our BP in, play all our games at a good swift pace, and have a good time.

Only 2 more weeks of Double Headers (I might have to make another Double Header Week later in the season since we had 1 rain out, but haven’t planned anything yet), so not like this is going to be all season long, but let’s just work together for these next couple weeks and we’ll be good.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks!
