Power Rankings: Week One

Week one is in the books and while we don’t want to put too much weight on one game these rankings are weekly so that’s all we have to work with right now. It will all start to balance out in a few weeks. So without any further ado, we bring you a completely unnecessary and flawed Power Rankings: Week One

1. R Bar (Last Week’s Rank – #1)

Expect R Bar to get very comfortable with the #1 rank for the next couple of weeks… We don’t see a challenge to their top ranking until week 4.

2. Black Betty (Last Week’s Rank – #2)

With the exception of Betty’s opponent, every team in the league scored at least 10 points with nine teams scoring 18 or more… Betty held the 86ers to only 5 runs with a mid-season defensive performance. Holland’s mandatory pre-season defensive clinic is showing early signs of paying off.

3. Spike Hill (Last Week’s Rank – #3)

Jumped out to an early lead in their first game and fought off a few rallies. They didn’t play close to their potential but still walked away with a win while showcasing how balanced their roster can be on both offense and defense.

4. Turkey’s Nest (Last Week’s Rank – #7)

Big win over Three Kings pushes Turkey’s Nest up the Power Rankings into the top four. Is the Nest going to challenge Three Kings for the top of the Fashion South? Maybe…. or maybe it was just a rusty start to the season for Three Kings. Either way, the Nest was one of only two teams that beat a higher ranked team in week one.

5. Kilo Bravo (Last Week’s Rank – #5)

Solid performance against #1 R Bar but still came up a little short. They battled back twice during the game and almost pulled off a bottom of the 9th comeback win. They didn’t look overmatched against last year’s champs.

6. Three Kings (Last Week’s Rank – #4)

Once Three Kings shook off the early game rust they owned their game with Nest but still came away losers in week one.

7. Clemerica (Last Week’s Rank – #8)

Clems revised roster continues to show promise of a better year than 2015 even with the week one loss. They stayed close all game to one of the best teams in the league (Spike Hill) and were a few hits or plays away from making this a much closer game.

8 St. Anselm (Last Week’s Rank – #9)

Some might question why St. Anselm didn’t move up past Clems after their opening day win but yielding 18 runs to the 14th ranked team and only wining by 3 wasn’t enough to have them step over Clems. All will be settled this weekend when St. Anselm faces off with Spike Hill and Clems faces St. Anselm’s last weekend opponent Runaways.

9. The Gutter 86ers (Last Week’s Rank – #6)

They were missing a few key players in week one but only putting up 5 runs caused the 86ers to fall down the rankings to #9. They play a new and improved Turkey’s Teachers this Sunday as they look to avoid an 0-2 start.

10. AT All-Stars (Last Week’s Rank – #11)

AT did what they had to do in week one against a lower ranked team. They move up a spot because they took case of business properly while the Yetis needed to work a little magic to get out of week one with a win.

11. Bedford Yetis (Last Week’s Rank – #10)

Yes – they are 1-0 but they were a run or two away from a heart breaking season opening loss to a lower ranked team. Too early to tell why game one was close but luckily for them they got a win before their tough match up with R Bar on Sunday.

12. Turkey’s Nest Teachers (Last Week’s Rank – #15)

Big move up the board for TNT based on their league leading 27 runs scored and week one victory over RSC. As predicted by their manager, their offense looks more explosive than 2015

13. Soft Spot Runaways (Last Week’s Rank – #14)

An 18 run outburst from a new and improved Runaways got them within 3 runs of a higher ranked St. Anselm.

14. Brooklyn Loggers (Last Week’s Rank – #13)

Put up a decent fight against AT but they have a tough match up coming up in week 2 against Turkey’s Nest. They moved down one based on how well Runaways played.

15. Gibson (Last Week’s Rank – #16)

Even with the week one lose, the Gibson is showing signs of improvement and came real close to their own opening day upset. Their 20 run outburst moves them up a spot going into their week 2 match up with Kilo Bravo

16. Roebling Sports Club (Last Week’s Rank – #12)

Time will tell if RSC poor game-one showing was just a bump in the road for the team or the result of TNT’s explosive new roster but letting up a weekend high 27 runs knocks RSC down to the last spot in week one.
