Message from the Commish: Halfway through 2015

Thu, Jun 25, 2015

Always pick a winner!

Helloooo Players, Fans and Lovers of the WSL! I wanted to reach out to you at this mid-way point of the 2015 Season and give you a quick update as to how things are going.

We’ve had a lot of great highlights so far this season: 3 Kings have emerged as favorites to win it all this year, we had our first female umpire in the modern era of the WSL, The Gibson has doubled their wins from last season (and are sure to win more!) and as I say every season, I think this the best one yet!

Few things I’d like to take care of right away:

1)      I’d like to give some shout outs to the website team who week in and out continue to keep the entertainment going in this league. Shortz, Belz, McNelis and Mo, you all rock!!

2)      A huge shout out to McNelis who not only takes care of the fields, but also stepped in as acting Commish while I was in Japan. I didn’t get a single complaint from anyone while I was gone, and this too, I think, is a first in the modern era of the WSL. Thank you, Mike!

3)      To the stats man himself, Justin Moench, thank you for continuously updating the scores and standing every week! Please continue to send him your lineups and scores. Also…let’s get him the homeruns so we can get a homerun leader board up!

4)      Like we did last season, it’s time to vote for who you think is the BEST ump in the WSL for the first half of the season. Last year we left it to the umps to vote, but that got all screwed up when someone (his name rhymes with Lake Javine) sent the survey around to his co-workers and ended up winning. Soooo I’ve decided to open this up to everyone! You can vote here: Feel free to send that link out to your mom, friend, neighbor, enemies, etc…and let’s see who wins! Best ump wins $60 in cash and bragging rights.

5)      Our Make Up Week is filling up quickly due to a bit of rain and reschedules, so what this means is I’m going to try to schedule double headers in the coming weeks. Please be reasonable with this and understand that I’m just trying to make sure that every team plays 18 games this season. If we have a major Sunday rainout, I’ll schedule a couple Double Header Sundays where games are going to start early and schedule will run something like 10am, 12pm, 2pm, 4pm, 6pm to get all those games in. We did this a few years back and despite the games being early, EVERYONE loved Double Header Sundays! I will notify everyone in the event I have to do this. Be nice.

6)      Since I’m a closet nerd, I put together a spreadsheet of the WSL Standings for everyone. You can download it here. With this sheet, you can sort out where you stand in wins, loses, RF, RA and of course the most telling RF/RA comparison. Think your team is “good”?? Well, use this sheet and find out where you stand in all those columns and then make the necessary adjustments. Remember, you’ve already made the playoffs. All you need is to win 4 games in a row in the tournament to become champs!! Everyone is a contender!

And that’s all for now! As usual, if you have any questions, complaints, suggestions, please don’t hesitate to write me.

Thanks all! And have a great second half!!

– H
