Make-up Week – RECAP

Tue, Sep 9, 2014

There were only 2 sanctioned games being played on Sunday, yet the park was full of (mostly) friendly softball from 11am until 7pm. From the organized scrimmages to extended BP sessions to sandlot-style pickup games, everyone was hanging out and having a super fun time! Perfect way to cap off the regular season.

Field #1: Pete’s @ Soft Spot (Stryker)

A guy looking like a Clemerican, eating sweets and calling himself a Yeti. I win the internet.

The Yeti’s sweet tooth proved to be stronger than Pete’s in this MAKE-OUT WEEK MASSACRE. With the 5th seed on the line and the chance to play ATU instead of Black Betty, both teams really wanted the ‘W’. Unfortunately, only one team got it. Early on, both teams seemed to be working off Labor Day cobwebs, but Soft Spot put a few big innings together and Pete’s offense never clicked. Yeti Annie re-discovered her slow pitch mojo at the plate, getting 2 hits and plating a run early with a two out RBI when the game was still in doubt. Steve Lynch had his old teams number, getting on base all 4 times he came up and scoring 3 runs earning player of the game status. The Yetis balanced out their offensive onslaught with some good old hard D including 2 strikeouts for Pizza and holding the always dangerous Pete’s to 3 runs on the day. Side-note: Four of Pete’s players scored 10 runs on us when they were subbing in for Spike Hill, remember that O’Malley? You won’t be that lucky in the playoffs! Joey in left center also rifled a throw into third base that caught Ian trying to go from first to third on a single by Max, that was a real game changer if you ask me. Steph was was smoking on the hot corner and somehow made it even hotter just swallowing everything that came his way. Tough game for Sam and the candy stripers but I know they’ll be ready to face Betty this Sunday. The Yetis are looking dangerous and ATU is gonna have their hands full with this crew. I think Sam and I are gonna start a League wide gossip column in the off season that “details all the fights and sex” so if you have anything you want to dish about, hit us up!!!

Field 1: Spike Hill @ Crown Vic 86ers (Stache)

Scenario Sunday was more like Scenario No Fun Day for our friends on the 86ers. Mayor Al Buttah’s cupboard was barren as they took the field and just couldn’t find the right combination of sobriety and skill to keep up with the folks from Spike Hill. Crown Vic did their best to keep it respectable into the 5th inning, then the Hill erupted like a volcano to pull away. Bobby and Silverman carried O’Malley’s offense, while Phil and Dubin anchored the D. If it weren’t for Mallory-V-P turning multiple double plays, this one could have gotten REALLY ugly for the 86ers. The final score was 17-2, as the defending champs maintained control of the game from the first pitch.

The playoff brackets are finalized now and Spike Hill earned the 3 seed and a date with the Clemericans next week, while the 86ers are staring down Styker’s man crush, the Turkey’s Nest “Boys of Summer” squad. Cheers to a great season everyone and good luck to in the playoffs!
