2013 Playoffs – Message from the Commish

Tue, Sep 3, 2013

Hello players, fans and friends of the WSL!

It’s less than a week before the playoffs begin and I wanted to send out a message to the league.

First, I want to thank all of you, the players, for coming down and playing each week in the WSL. I am so proud of this league, how it has evolved over the years and how it has become one of the most fun, competitive and awesome leagues, and it’s only getting better and better each season. I feel we’ve all grown together as a family, we’ve made new friends, hopefully sparked some new romances (or rivalries), and at the end of the day, we have these memories and good times we’ll remember forever.

Second, I am very excited for the playoffs and I hope everyone is as well. Please keep in mind that as heated as the games can get, please keep your sportsmanship caps on. I expect everyone to come down, play hard and give it 110%. We play 25 weeks for these playoffs, this is the time to leave it out on the field! But, everyone needs to be cool and understand that at the end of the day, we’re all friends and it’s a game.

Third, as some of you may or may not know, we have re-designed and renamed the WSL Trophy after our friend who we lost suddenly over the winter. I am proud to name it the Joe “Fashion” Fiorentino Williamsburg Softball League Championship Trophy. Joe left such a huge legacy on this league, was one of the sweetest and kindest gentlemen around and he is incredibly missed. I hope this trophy will proudly represent him for as long as the WSL is around.

Finally, I want to apologize for the confusion around the seeding of the playoff tournament. In no way was I trying to do anything underhanded, or tricky. I was simply just trying to make it fair to the teams involved and to the league. I will work on these rules in the off-season to make them as clear as possible and figure out all the possible playoff scenarios and make them available to everyone so there will be nothing left to chance or last minute. Please keep in mind: this is my first time running this league, so I’m kinda learning as I go! I will always try my best and for what’s fair to the league. I hope you can all bear with me. Thank you!

Good luck in these next coming weeks. Play hard. Play fair. Don’t get hurt. And WIN!!
