After shitting on the creditability of The Weather Channel in the last post, we hope to believe their prediction for some very comfortable softball-ing weather is actually accurate. This week’s scheduled slate of games has been modified after a secret (and at times, very boring manager’s meeting) and a few under the table transactions, not to mention a Sam “Blue Clue” reach around of Al Buttah.
The 2PM games were both cancelled and rescheduled for a later date. Instead, the surly WSL crowds will just have to entertain themselves for a few morning hours before the new 12PM start.
No worries though, we finally have all the rescheduling figured out, so you may now proceed….
12PM
Field #1: Soft Spot vs. Good Co (Shortz)
Last time these clubs met on Cinco de Mayo, the Pink Ladies decimated the Yetis with a score of 18-6. Currently with the 3rd lowest record in the South, Soft Spot needs to pull it together if they want to win either of their games. Especially with Cap’n Calves back from his calf massage and ready to hit 9 more homers. Wally’s been giving him a special diet of egg-whites and bone marrow all week and has banned him from going to the Soft Spot, where the Cap’n frequents 3 (or 6) times a day week.
As for the Yetis, Baby Boy will be keeping the entire Good Company outfield on red alert, as he can hit it anywhere he wants, along with Soft Spot big bats Joey “Nephew Pizza”, Jason “Cashmere Pride” and their fearless leader, Zak “Nickname Pending”.
Field #2: Loggers vs. RBar (GBlack)
The softball fun continues for RBar when they take on a beat-up, yet determined Loggers team. The Loggers are in the mist of a very painful 5-game losing-streak. After last week’s “knee to the nuts” administered by TNT in a 28-9 loss, Logger Mike Saris only came out of hiding to compliment Erik Pendzich’s awesome weekly photos, then disappeared again to continue his memory erasing mantra, “A Strong Logger is a Winning Logger”. Hey whatever works! I got two positives for Brenner’s Crew to focus on.
1. RBar might be tired from a Yeti battle
2. You guys fared very well in a Week 5 non-blowout loss (9-15) to The Bums. Time to raise those axes and chop down the Kings of the South!
2PM
Field #1: R Bar @ Soft Spot (GBlack)
The Bums are “twin-billin'” it this Sunday and are looking to get 2-wins in one day. A double-header sweep would strengthen RBar’s stranglehold on the South while breathing down O’Malley’s neck for the #1 playoff seed. Be warned RBar, Mike O’Malley does not like his personal space violated, and he’s well trained in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. Standing in their way are the Yetis, who are stuck in neutral at 7-7, and are also seeking victory in their first of two games on Sunday. Will Yeti-slayer and RBar catalyst Josh Rodriguez remember to set his alarm clock? Can Soft Spot snap out of their two game losing-streak and get some of that old swagger back? What delicious brunch spreads will Walter’s Deli (Located 70-11 Grand Ave, Maspeth, NY, Tel. No.718-424-2977) bring to feed the Big Blue Machine? Hey Adam, Free plug equals free sandwich, that is the way it works!
4PM
Field #1: Pete’s vs. Turkey’s Teachers (Shortz)
In week 5, Pete’s won this “on the mound” match up. The Candy folk will be sans Sam, so hopefully their interim coach can keep the squad from being too sugar-rushed against the Teachers. Speaking of Teachers…last week they finally got their groove back with a blowout win over the Loggers. So look out Trifecta of Awesome, the Teachers may’ve regrouped to whoop dat ass!
One more note for TNT- dreams came true for the Shortz when I got to take a pic with your entire squad before you last played Pete’s. Hopefully you don’t blame that for the loss…unless you do, in which case I’d be more than happy take a group pic with Pete’s before the game to even the score.
Field #2: Brooklyn Bowl vs. Gibson (GBlack)
6PM
Field #1: AT AllStars vs. Clemerica (GBlack)
These two teams battle it out to finish off Sunday and if their first contest was any indication, it will be a hard fought one. The Clem nation’s loss was super close against AT that Cino De Mayo weekend, so sweet revenge is on the minds of the Scallywags. In order to hold on to their #2 seed, the Allstars will try some BBQ voodoo by grillin’ it up.
Clemerica Ace Stryker, an avid gambler and new dog owner (as mentioned in this article http://www.nyda
Field #2: 2nd Chance vs. Brooklyn Bowl (Shortz)
This is one of two games (along with the RBar/SoftSpot make-up), that isn’t a Cinco de Mayo rematch (ahhh- late season rescheduling). Anywho, these two clubs last met in week 13 (their first matchup in 3 years), which resulted in the Bowlers winning by a touchdown. Now that Mayor Buttah is entering his final month before his nuptials to teammate and ladylove Kathryn Irby, I suggest y’all be ready for them to take that wedding planning anxiety out on the field. Whoever pops out gets relegated to the kids’ table; whoever makes a defensive error is in charge of the guest book; whoever gets greedy on the base-path (Sgt. Andre) gets assigned to the dreaded post-reception cleanup crew.
See you fools out there,
Toodles,
-The New Additions
