Week 15- Preview

Thu, Jul 11, 2013

The scorching days of summer have finally come and hopefully everyone worked off those awful softball tan lines over the holiday weekend. But we’re back for more action! The good people of the Parks Department only had to be water boarded twice this time to answer our pleas for fresh dirt on the infields, so as we enter into the 15th week, not only are your chances of catching Hepatitis slightly smaller (still be wary of the Nest’s toilet seat), but all infielders should be walking around with excitement boners for at least a few weeks.

On to the games!

Field #1: Loggers @ 3 Kings (GBlack)

It’s called the “Gentlemint”

The Majestic Ones are on a roll and playing their best ball of the season. Winning their last three games, they look to win two in a row over The Loggers, their  Week 13 victims. To make sure his team does not wear themselves out in the 1st game of their twin bill, Stash McNelis has loaded up the Boombox with nothing but the heaviest of metal and of course the Rocky theme song. Brenner also has the Loggers playing at their best, going 2-1 in their last three games. Who will continue on their current streak of good softballing? Will Tony Basile go ninja stealth mode and steal the batteries out of the 3K boom box? Grab your triple venti mocha latte with Stache inspired foam art and come watch!

Field #2: duckduck @ Turkey’s Nest (Shortz)

Eternal Sunshine of the Duckless Mind

This marks the second time in two weeks that these two teams will dance. I’m confident that the Nesters will be coming out in droves this Sunday after losing with nine players to the duckduck in week 13. As for the Ducks, we’re still riding high and our somewhat winning streak (over the holiday, week 12 was erased from our memories, Eternal Sunshine-style). I’ll be back in the fold for the first time in a month (stupid quad), but before you Nesters strategize whacking every ball at my shins like I’m some cardboard cut-out, be advised that I’ve been watching game tape on the DL so there ain’t no rust on these shorts.

Field #1: Loggers @ Soft Spot (GBlack)

Since I am off today and hanging with my daughter Kaitlyn, I asked her to draw the preview to this game and this is what she came up with, ENJOY!

Field #2: duckduck @ Gibson (Shortz)

Now I have a machine gun. Ho ho ho.

I know there’s been a bit of Gibson roasting as of late, but this club is capable of instilling fear throughout any game no matter the end result. Case in point- in our last meet-up with the Gibson, they scored 8 runs on us in a single inning, so you better believe they’ll be showing up guns blazin’. The Ducks will be heading straight into our second game of the day, which means one of two things. We’ll either be in a super groove, or we’ll be tired as hell and the Gibson will finally capture their first W of the season. Bring your own mesh camo shorts!

Field #1: Spike Hill @ Turkey’s Nest (Shortz)
In this week 6 rematch, Spike Hill will rumble once again with a very tuckered out Turkey’s Nest. Disco and the Boys of Summer will have their work cut out for them if they want to finally strike down the Spike Hill dynasty. Hopefully they’ll get some nap time in during the noon games…or booze it up on their break. And in case any Turkeys peace out between the 10am and 2pm games, they could ask for a “loaner” from their worthy opponents. There’s not a whole lot I can add to this one…expect have a nice & friendly game!

Field #2: 3 Kings @ Good Company (GBlack)

She only accepts $2 bills and Susan B. Anthonys

The Kings hope for a carbon copy of their Week 6 performance vs. Good Co., a 20-15 victory. The Pinks should be feeling great about themselves after a complete drubbing of the champs in Week 13. But they are treading water at 5-5 in the tough South Division and sliding down a slippery pole like an aging stripper at Pumps. They need to pick it up so they do not drop even further down in the power rankings. What should the always classy Walter Pluff do if they lose the season series to the Crowned Ones? I say take them to Pumps and force lap dances from those very same aging strippers. Careful though… do not sit on the wet spot on the couch in the VIP room, who are we kidding…Pumps does not have a VIP room.

Field #1: AT Allstars @ 2nd Chance (GBlack)

One of AT’s most exciting victories came in Week 6 against the Saloon, a walk-off 9-8 win. After rattling off 8 consecutive wins, the Allstars are on a 3 game losing streak. Has the step up in competition been too much for the Green n’ Gold? Or has the Mexican imported Rally Tequila just run out and is in need of a simple refill? Whatever the reason is, they look to wash that 3 game skid mark from their underwear. The 86er’s are also on a losing streak, they have not won since the first week of interleague play. Someone will have to give in this match-up. Will the newly married Jeff Gutowski and crew add to AT’s recent poop stain? Does Mickey Smiles even know that they have lost any games this season? Only a few things are for certain: OG Vinny will have some great smoke, the Drunk Tank will be overflowing, and Al Blizzy will say that something is “Completely bananas”. See everyone under the AT tent after the game.

And now a showcase into AT’s rigorous training program, featuring rookie pretty boy John Condon

Field #2: Clemerica @ Brooklyn Bowl (Shortz)

A few more games and Mittens might qualify for the playoffs!

What we know about the last time these two clubs battled is that Brooklyn Bowl is 1-0 against the Battleship (we were forced to Pinterest their week 6 recap, resulting in both teams getting devoured by a large cat). Fast forward to week 15 and the Bowlers are on an absolute tear, while the Battleship is in the process of repairing a little structural damage inflicted in week 12. There’s no defense like a good offense, so I predict this will be a high scoring game (Sure, why not- I’m stuck in an airport in Madrid with nothing but my laptop, boredom, and daydreams of softball glory).

Field #1: Black Betty @ Turkey’s Teachers (Shortz)

Don’t make her call your mother

In past seasons, the Teachers have had the Betty’s number (insert math joke), yet they’ve already lost to them once this season. Betty’s week 13 fail has hopefully gotten them fired up to get back on top, so the squawking pedagogues could be cruising for a bruising. If I could offer up a suggestion for the Teachers it’d be this: For the love of God, make sure you have “Aggie” Golgoski on the mound!

Field #2: RBar @ Pete’s Candy Store (GBlack)

Pete’s idea of a victory

The Bums stand alone on top of the WSL with a league best 9-2 record . After a season series sweep of the Teachers two weeks ago and on a 6 game winning streak, they look to avenge one of their loses (Week 6, 8-6 loss ) vs The Candy Store. After Pete’s was kicked in the balls by AT, then punched in the face by duckduck, which was followed by being farted in the face with their mouth open by BK Bowl and finally laid out by Spike Hill in inter-league play, they righted the ship when games returned to their division. They shaved and neutered the Yeti’s in sweeping their double header in Week 14.  Rbar is playing the best softball in the league and Pete’s wants to show they can contend with the best the south has to offer. Great game to finish off a very busy softball Sunday.

 See you kids out there!
