Week 13- Preview

Thu, Jun 27, 2013

Can you believe we are midway through the schedule already?!? We’ve seen RBar climb to the top of the standings to join powerhouses Black Betty and Spike Hill as the league’s elite. We’ve learned that switching divisions has been much kinder to BK Bowl than it has to Good Co. And above all, we’ve learned that Mother Natures truly HATES US! But what lies ahead in the second half of 2013? Can AT keep pace with their hot start?  Will duckduck change their name to something even more strange? Can Three Kings PLEASE do better than their .500 first half record now that they’ve discovered music? Who the hell is going to let the Gibson win one?

Week 13 starts now!

10AM & 12PM

Field #1: R Bar vs. Turkey’s Teachers /Turkey’s Teachers vs. R Bar (GBlack)

Rbar: Pimps of the South

The Teachers might be in for a tough long lesson on Sunday as they get a double dose of  the hottest team in the league, RBar! 5-1 in their last 6 games, The Bums gave  the top 4 Northern teams a bitch slap and now share the division lead. We suggest Haz pays for a overnight stay at a hyperbaric chamber for Alan ‘AGGIE’ Golgoski on Saturday since  he pitched their only two victories of the season. Can the TNT pull off a Sunday morning/afternoon upset. Will Josh ever make a AM game for Rbar? (AT 10 am? We say Hells NO!)

Field #2: Soft Spot vs. Pete’s / Pete’s  vs. Soft Spot (Shortz)

Not again! ahhh!

Like many games being played this week, this is a makeup from the GREAT RAINOUT OF WEEK 2.

As I wrote back then, Pete’s championship run ended when they met Soft Spot in the first round of the playoffs, so they get not one, but two opportunities to exact revenge. Pete’s have been on a consistent losing streak as of late, where as Yetis are all over the place this season (win two, lose two, win three, lose one). If their inconsistent algorithm sticks, the “fireballs” could actually melt the Yetis, and there’s no way they can blame it on the umping this time.

2PM

Field #1: Spike Hill vs. AT All Stars (GBlack)

The AT outfield or Lieutenant Dan’s Tent in Vietnam?

What’s more surprising? That a dumb pro football player couldn’t pull off a First Degree Murder? Or that AT is still on top of the North?  I mean, Hernandez left his chewing gum at the scene!!! What an IDIOT! Speaking of, how have AT stayed ahead of the former champs? Well, their original Week#2 match-up was postponed cause of field flooding. Then in Week #7, Spike Hill fled from the Mud Bowl quicker than a hipster flocking to a vintage sale, while AT narrowly beat out duckduck. But now the moment of truth has arrived. Will the grizzled Jimmy ‘Two Strikes’ Kanter conjure up some veteran magic to help AT get their first EVER win vs. SH? Can O’Malley keep hitting tape measure home runs on Field #1’s RF? Will Morgan match her hair and socks? Lets see if AT can once again prove themselves as the upper tier teams in the WSL.

Field #2: Good Co vs. Black Betty (Shortz)

We’re confident you’ll make the “right” decision…

Finally, last season’s semi-final rematch can take place, and it couldn’t come at a worse time for Good Co. The Pinks have lost five straight games whereas the Betty are right on schedule in mid-season form. I’d say the saving grace for Good Co. is a conflicting game on the blacktop, but this conflict actually affects both squads. The painful decision between blacktop and grass looks to play out like a Softball Sophie’s Choice. I guess we’ll either see some blacktop forfeits or some interesting rosters.

4PM

Field #1: Gibson vs. Clemerica (GBlack)

Jeopardy Time!

Category: WSL
The answer: Megan Fox wins the Oscar for Best Actress, Lindsay Lohan sobers up and we find Noah’s Ark.
The Question: What will happen before the Gibson wins their first game?

We jest of course. We’ve seen these guys in warm ups every Sunday believing they’ll get that elusive win every game. You throw your bodies around the field and never give up until the last out. We salute you, Gibson! The WSL seas have thrown The Battleship through some highs and lows in the first half of 2013. From a week #1 walk-off win to the shut out loss vs. the Yetis last week. Both teams need a win; Clemerica, to reach .500 and The Gibson to finally get that gigantic gorilla off their backs. Who are you rooting for?

Field #2: Turkey’s Nest vs. duckduck (Shortz)

This game marks rematch last season’s “elite eight” (so many playoff rematches this week). As the WSL History Books indicate, one of us advanced. Don’t worry, TN, I won’t link “the catch” video again…I’LL JUST POST IT!

However, the Nesters did sweep Reel to Reel last season and both squads have had interesting seasons thus far, so anything could happen…which includes when we used Wally’s request to switch games as a platform to engage in some good old fashioned smack talk:

You know it’s bad-ass when you catch Bieber wearing it

Shortz: Hey Disco- you, The Boys of Summer, and the rest of you gobble-dom are going DOWN!

Disco: DuckDuck, you better duck! Cause these Turkeys eat Duck for dinner! Especially on Thanksgiving.

Wally: You guys should just go turducken each other.

Let’s get that last line on a t-shirt ASAP.

6PM

Field#1: 3 Kings vs. Loggers (GBlack)

3 Kings is BOMBASTIC

3 Kings seemed lost in the first few weeks of the 2013 season, causing their manager Stash McNelis to lose a few lip whiskers. Luckily, it all turned around after a visit to Radio Shack. They found new life (and wins) in a boom box! The Majestic Ones are riding a 2 game winning streak and went 3-1 in inter-league play. When reached for comment on their outlook for the rest of the season, 3K pitcher Nick Tomeo said, “No comment, no pictures, no autographs, I do not talk to the tabloids”. What a diva! The BK Loggers are feeling groovy after they handled Breezy and his cohorts last week. With former AT Allstar Brian Belluomini bringing his grit and all-out playing style to Brenner’s bunch, the second half of the season is looking far rosier than in years past. The Loggers will look to dethrone the Kings this week, or at the very least put a rusty thumbtack on the throne when no one’s looking.

Field #2: Brooklyn Bowl vs. 2nd Chance (Shortz)

In an anomaly to the rest of these rematch games, these two teams haven’t faced off in at least three years. With this non-familiarity, there could be some fielding adjustments early in the game. As I’ve been told by Mayor Al Buttah, “It doesn’t matter so much who we play, we really need to get those bats going”, Well your prayers may’ve been answered, as I found y’all a Groupon for discounted batting cages. As for the Bowlers, your “Runs For” is double that of Second Chance. This Groupon is not for you (I WILL check).

See you out there!

Toodles,
