Happy New Year 2013! A Message from the Commish…

Fri, Jan 11, 2013

Hello Players, Friends, Fans and Family of the WSL!

I’ve been thinking for some time about putting up a New Year’s Post for 2013. Obviously, quite a bit has happened since the 2012 season ended and I’ve wanted to say some things, so I guess, here goes.

First, I want to thank Godsy for being a great Commissioner these many years. This league is his vision, his baby, and without all his hard work, diligence and commitment, none of this would be possible. So, thank you, Godsy! I plan to continue the success of the WSL and hope I can run this ship as well as you have.

Second, as you all know, we lost one of our favorite people of the league, Joe Fashion. Any of us that had the opportunity to interact with Joe, to hang out, talk with him and play with him knows that he was certainly unique and a wonderful character. Losing him is a terrible tragedy, and something we will never forget.  I want to give a big thank you to all those who put together Joe’s Fundraiser. It was very, very successful and a true testament as to who his friends are and what this league is all about. We still have a lot of merchandise left and everyone will have the opportunity to purchase more during the season. Get a patch!! I want to dedicate this season of the WSL to the Memory of Joe Fashion, so we’ll be continuing to raise money and keep him in the forefront of our minds. Remember, as Fashion said: This is recess!

Third, as we all know, this league can get very competitive, very heated, very…ummm, what’s the other word I’m looking for?? Oh yeah, totallyfuckingbatshitnutsoutofcontrolcrazy. And that’s great! I know we all have a competitive spirit and love to come down and play hard every Sunday. But, I do want to stress sportsmanship. I think we’ve done a great job improving that over the past couple season, but let’s continue to do so. We’ll be putting together more interactive events this season so people can get to know one another, interact, intermix, hook up, you know, fun stuff!

Lastly, I’ll be meeting with various groups that will assist me in running the league:  Website Team, Umpire Crew, Groundskeepers, etc…so we can get this organized as best as possible. If you have never done any of those things before and you’re interested in doing any of those fun tasks, please let me know and we can get you on board. There is a TON of crap to do, so the more people, the better. Don’t be shy!

This is the BEST League in all five burrows, let’s continue to grow it, improve it, and make it a place where one day when we’re all old and decrepit, we can look back and smile that we spent 30 Sundays every friggen summer running amock in Williamsburg and occasionally playing softball.

We’ll be doing Spring Training again this season and it’s going to be here before you know it. We’ll be posting this on Facebook so any new players that want to join can try out for the league.

Get your rosters together! Oil your mitt! Here’s to a great 2013!!

Thanks, everyone!!
