Week 14 – Recap

Tue, Jul 31, 2012

Well, this weekend was interesting….

Clems stays afloat.

Starting off 3 Kings played another close one, this time with the All Stars. AT jumped out to an early lead, but 3 Kings opened up a hitting clinic in the 3rd and turned a close game into a 9-3 lead. AT chipped away at their deficit and took the lead back with a big 7th inning of their own. 3 Kings bats were held at bay till the 8th when they once again managed a lead change going up by 2 runs. AT put together a come back in the top of the 9th and scored 3 runs to take a 14-13 lead and capped the game off with a 1-2-3 bottom of the 9th to win their 10th game of the season.

TNT holds onto first place by the skin of their teeth with that win over Betty in week #6 and a big W Sunday over the Loggers. Here’s Haz, “The Nest Teachers evened the season series with the Loggers with a solid defensively played game that resulted in a 12-8 victory. Big props to Lidia P. and Megan B. who sparked an offensive outburst in the 8th inning with back to back hits that sealed the win with 4 late runs. Game MVP goes to Shane who was stellar at short and went 3-3 with 4 RBIs. I would be remiss as team manager and friend if i didn’t give a huge shout out to Megan Best, that’s her real name and Judd the Studd, not his real name, who got engaged thursday and provided further reason for the TNT squad to win one for the happy couple.” Congrat’s all around!!

Wally ties it up against the Turkey's Nest.

The Game of the Week came through as always with a great show from Good Co and the Turkey’s Nest. The Defense was solid and this one stayed scoreless through the first couple innings. Then I remember that I think The Nest went up by two. Good Co came back to tie it and Kornhuaser hit’s his second homerun to take the lead again. Some other stuff probably happened, but I missed it Anyway, Good Co won and they moved back into second place in the North.

Yeti Zak sent in a recap for their win against Mendoza, so you know that’s big! “It was a back and forth battle that saw Mendoza come back to tie the game 3 times, but in the end, James Toolan could not be stopped. Toolan’s acrobatic array of plays in the field and clutch hitting propelled Soft Spot to a 12-11 win and maybe, just maybe, jump-started what has been a slow season for the Yetis. Big props to April and Stephanie for big days at the plate and to Joe Godsy, who hit the ball really far.” Guess that beard was just dead weight, huh Toolan?

Silverman pretends to watch the 37 Yard Dash with Baby-Boy and that new Reel 2 Reel manager.

Reel 2 Reel gave Spike Hill a real test this week. Dave Babkow started right off with a hit and got in to take a one run lead, but  Spike Hill pushed a run across on a couple hits, with Jake getting the RBI in the bottom. O’Malley choked with two outs and the bases loaded hitting a hard shot into the glove of Andrew, who had a great day at first.  They traded runs again, but by the 5th it was 6 to 2 Reel, with Lauck, Dave, Andrew and Greg Todd getting hits. R2R almost made the lead bigger, when Craig, Saturday-dude who plays for Archive, hit what should have been at least a triple into RC.  Morgan got the relay and got it to Annie for a tag out at home and a near double play on a tag at 3rd.  In the 6th, SH pulled it even at 6, on a home run by Jake, and RBIs by Powell, Lebron and O’Malley.  R2R put two more up in the top of the 7th, led by speedy Lauck, Ope and Greg Todd. But then, in the 7th inning, Morgan started-off with a double then scored on a hit, Jake followed with a 2 run homer and Lebron had the last RBI that capped a 5 run inning putting the Hill up 11 to 8, which is where it ended.

Black Betty's bench is seeing much happier times.

Gibson made their 2nd game against the 86ers a little more entertaining this week. El Train has a hell of a day turning three double plays with two assists from Leigh Ann at 2B with some real fancy fieldwork. Al Buttah and Andre has great days at the plate and Lil Jeff set a new WSL record for shortest hit @ 4.5 inches. 2nd Chance has two straight wins!

Something went terribly wrong with Pete's this weekend.

Black Betty and Rbar faced off for the 5pm Game. Both teams were hungry for a win and played hard. The game was close for the first few innings, but the Andrew Becker-less Black Betty managed to string some hits together, coupled with some tight D, and pulled out a solid victory over their inter-division rivals 19-6. They still have a rainout game to make up, which will give RBar a chance for some revenge!

Clem’s scored Twenty-Two runs against Pete’s…No shit? I guess they haven’t recovered from their loss to Betty last week. Or maybe those monster transplants weren’t such a good idea afterall.

Post-gameday at the Gibson the Olympic excitement spread through the crowd and before you knew it we had a little event of our own. Shortz and Andrew Millard were able to both capture and recreate it for those of you who were unable to make it to The WSL 37 Yard Dash!!

How many times did you just replay that

All standings and “Who Would You Play” are updated. There are still some makeup rain out games to be played, so once those are planned, they’ll get on the schedule. As for the HR Leader Board…I have no idea. Let’s lobby or Cesar, or let him hit a few HR’s so he can get on the board and then he’ll update it!
