Week 14 – Preview

Fri, Jul 27, 2012

Rain, rain, and more rain. But who cares if it rains while were working? Not us as we grind out the week, because if you haven’t looked at our little weather box in a while you should click on Sunday now. Ahhhh….much better, keep your fingers crossed for no rain!  Our amazing photographer Erik is out this week, so we don’t even have to wash our uniforms. Crap, did I say that out loud? What are you looking at?! The preview is down there…go read it!

You keep pluckin' that fowl!Is that fair or fowl? Do turkey's cluck? We really didn't know what to say about this picture.

11AM

AT took the 3 Kings by 3 runs in one of the rained out week #2 games that were sneaked in. AT is hanging with the big boys and will be looking for their 10th win and chance to move into that second spot in the North since someone has to lose the turks/pinks match-up later in the day.

On field two, the Loggers are back after a week off and are in search of their second straight win. After my 10  years on the league, it’s badass to finally see a team giving a WSL lady the starting job at short! Jen10 and her boys face the Turkey’s teachers and this girl is no joke when it comes to pre-game preparation; prepare to be plucked!!

1PM

Good Co gets back to back Game of The Week spots in a 2nd place battle for the North vs The Nest. They haven’t played each other yet this season. That loss the pinks took to SH last week knocked them from 2 place to 6th in the overall playoff standings. A win against new #2 seeds Turkey’s Nest would help get them back on track. Don’t miss this one!

Soft Spot had a really rough time with Mendoza during on that Independence weekend game. The Yeti’s are in serious danger this season. They need this win period…but the Line ain’t gunna make it easy, probably, oh who knows with Mendoza?

Samson. The real brains behind Spike Hill.

3PM

Spike Hill vs Reel2Reel…let’s see how they play at 3PM as opposed to 10AM from last week. Hopefully for R2R, they’re just not morning people. Spike Hill not only has the best record, but they got the best mascot as well…and Samson says, ‘Go ahead R2R, Make My…OMG, Hot Dog lady!! Hot Dog Lady!!”

Gibson gets another shot at 2nd Chance. That is all.

5PM

RBar vs Betty. Jason Merhaut faces his championship team for the first time ever and he and the Bums need this win more than ever! Betty’s first game in the Beckerless Era.

Pete’s prepare for Battle! Just two games out of first place, Pete’s still has a shot to make waves in the South, and the Battleship Clemerica is sinking fast.

Finally, we at the WSL Site feel that the league is such a wonderful community of friends and we all know, at the end of the day softball is just a game and despite the competitiveness of the league and the games, we all need to look out for one another. Maureen McGowan, who used to play on the league on the PourHouse team before she moved to Park Slope, is a survivor of Hodgkin’s lymphoma. She raises funds to help send other cancer fighters/survivors to First Descents camp, where they too can have the opportunity to empower themselves and reclaim their life after cancer! Here is a fantastic video on ESPN about her. In addition to raising funds, while we were at the Gibson sucking down beer #72, she just finished the IRON MAN on July 22nd! She also was the the one who designed Joe Godsy’s awesome baseball card gift with Jude Domski! We’re asking to please donate to her charity, it would really mean a lot!!

We’d also like to share that Jude is having a show “Hurry With the Swift Current,” in the neighborhood. Details will be up here very soon, so, stay tuned!

Has anyone figured out why that Malt-O-Meal video yet? Me neither.

Sunday-Funday!

– Carly
