Week 13 – Double Header Week!! – Recap

Tue, Jul 24, 2012

The Black...

How nice was that weather?? A lot nicer than you guys were with the WEAK #13 recaps! Come on!! I got nothing!! I guess I’ll have to wing it. Here we go…

10AM

The Barndog ended his impressive streak at his first trip to the plate, but the Reelers were still able to keep it tight through most of the game. That is all I heard, oh and also that Spike Hill won again. Whatever.

Mendoza settles into a one game lead in third place in the South taking The RBar by 8 in the dreaded 10AM gameday opener. But RBar takes a huge win vs Sidney in the ensuing Water Balloon Battle under the Big Tree. That stupid pink water balloon pump has been gifted to the fly-ridden trash barrel next to that scumbag of a drinking fountain that gives a us all facials every Sunday on field one. What a bunch of assholes.

Stacey Crushin' It!

12PM

In the game of the Week, the Pinks stood strong through 5 or 6, but gave up a couple HR’s to Jakey-Poo and #35 in the late innings. The Co did a Good job holding them after that, with help from Ms. Stacey who had a stellar day, but they just couldn’t deal with the Spike Hill D, who made one amazing play after another to draw ooohhhs and ahhs from the crowd drowned out by UGGGHS! and GRRRRS! from the Pink bench. (And there goes Melissa’s mercy “like” for this lame recap. Thank goodness for Leo.) The League has decided to collectively blame Joel (pronounced Joelle…get it straight.) for this loss since he was bragging about being at a crummy Red Sox game for his absence. I mean seriously? Who attends Red Sox games this year?? I hope he was getting paid to go!

Black Betty dominated over the Soft Spot to claim that heavily-eyed number 2 spot in the South that was up for grabs. With two handfulls of runs over the Mendoza Line, Betty ties ‘Doza’s record and at this point we have a 3 way tie for top of the south.

See you in October!

2PM

It looks like the Teachers just inched over Clem’s by a run on field one somehow, while Black Betty stuck to the game plan in the 2nd half of their double-header on field 2 to take Pete’s by the same score as they served the Yetis. The only one, Andy Becker smashed out 3 HR’s at his first 3 at bats to make damn sure we don’t forget his ass. Becker has decided to break Betty’s Black hearts and head on out to single handedly try and rebuild his hometown state of Missouri with a box of business cards and a dream. It’s been a nice run and we’ll all miss those smiling eyes; the bombs over our heads…not so much. The recap spot for this match-up goes to Patrick Lane from Pete’s…who filled in as a favor to Sam.

Sam, my number 1 go to guy for your recaps!

In the last two seasons Sam has been my go to guy with recaps of his game, your game, and games he’s umped. This dude is totally clutch on Mondays and you would not believe how much of these recaps have been stolen straight from his lips. He was the ONLY one of you who sent me an email this week and he didn’t even play! Thanks, to you as well, Patrick! “In a odd-timed 2pm game, Pete’s had Black Betty (instead of the Loggers in a last minute scheduling change) on Field 2. Both teams played solid D, but the Betty line-up gave Pete’s outfielders the old “in out, in out” all day while Andy Becker’s finale was a ridiculous showing. The Candy Store only recorded one out on him all day while tracking down a fly ball hit to 2nd base of the opposing Field 1. Laughter ensued in the Pete’s outfield, because that was one looong out and just had to tip the cap to Becker. Pete’s was missing Sam “I am the fucking coach” Rio and could have really used his colorful leadership to inspire a rally (not even a round of beers from Turkeys could stir a comeback). It just wasn’t Pete’s day as a potential Ian Fenger homer to right center was run down from behind preventing him from scoring on the play. At that point, maybe Pete’s should have sprung for the Absinthe Margaritas! One scary moment, Ed Carroll (normally Pete’s 3rd baseman) crashed into the 2nd lamppost while tracking a shot to right field. He was Ok, but I think we’ll see him back at the hot corner next week where he’s in less danger of straddling poles….umm. Also, JB$ had some neat mirrored sunglasses on and some bizarre skywriting happened for the Black Keys (not Black Betty as some were hollering before the plane spat out the “keys” portion).

Yup, only 4PM…

2nd chance couldn’t handle the All Stars this week to extend their win to two, but lucky for them today they get …well…a 2nd chance. (I know, terrible.)

Janina King Poulin was a royal pain for 3K’s pitcher!

Mitchalicious had a big test this week, with his first coaching experience in the 10 years that he’s been on the league and with the lowest turn-out from the Gibson on the season. Playing 3 gals and an all infield staff Mitch lead the Gibson to their first Victory since Holyshitwhoknows??! The Kings took an early 6 run lead but the Gibson stole it away with a big midgame inning. Despite the puddle ruining hits for both teams, The Kings came within one run in the 9th after holding the Gibson with a swift double play in the top by Raja Price at 2B and then scoring two come-back runs in the bottom on a two out rally. Gibson was able to hold them after that though to take it by one. Neeners dominated at the plate for the Gibson, going 4-4 and holding down right field for the Game Ball MVP!

Post-win, I ran directly to The Nest for a celebratory beer and a piss only to get back to find our second game already in progress AND we were down by 6. Well…that was short lived.

6PM

2nd Chance took that close loss against AT and tweaked up their offense to send the Gibson home 19 runs short of taking 2nd to last place in the North. Congrats to 2nd Chance on back to back weekend W’s!! And we’ll see whatchya got next week!

If you are playing the Nest on field one leave a couple surprise Nestaritas for their LC Fielder under the little tree and sail your hits on over!

Well, as you remember…you were over on field 1 to watch the bottom of the AT double header. This game drew quite a crowd…I wonder why? Anyway…I’m sure you heard about a certain Turkey clowning around, but regardless of those THREE runs AT kept it really close with the original Nest for most of the game losing by a mere run. The All Stars move into some place in the North, leave it to them to screw up the standings. Just ignore them until the play-offs.

Guess O’Malley and Gerald weren’t very proud of their teammates. Not a single shout out for any of ya this week.

– Carly

Holland’s 2 Cents:

Alright, the “Who Would You Play” has been updated. Lots of movement between the 2nd and 10th seeds with teams still fighting for position. The bottom 6 seeds, no movement, and the #1 seed is still being held firmly by SH. If my math is correct, I think with 1 more win, SH will at least tie for the #1 spot and with 2 wins, they’ll have it locked up. Can they go undefeated!? No one ever has in the “modern era” of the WSL. All eyes will be on them!
