Independence Day Weekend Recap!

Sun, Jul 1, 2012

Pete Hoffman keeping the book.

Didn’t have the best turnout for pick-up again, but that helped the make-up games get started without a hitch over on Field One as we settled into the Nest to watch Italy get bitch slapped by Spain. Big props to Ollie Dietz who helped out during pick-up with an amazing 7 yr old arm and some solid fielding skills.

Mendoza Line fired away early and often with 27 runs to celebrate the birth of our nation in style against the Soft Spot Yetis. The Lines bats were scorching as the day blazed on. Jay Silver, Godsy and Christian all went 5-6 with a dinger for Christian. Nate Schiavo and his gimpy knee went 4-5 with 2 homers and the Womendoza’s went a combined 6-10 and played stellar D.

JL hitting one of his league leading HR's!

Reel 2 Reel and The Nest did not have a rain make up, so they played their Week#13 game early so they can reserve that spot for a possible rain make-up in the future. I know confusing, but whatever. It was a great watch with a dramatic finish as Reel 2 Reel  got the game tying run on base but came up just short in the 9th. Here’s a recap spot for Jakob Hawkins, “

R2R lost. Both teams played hard. “The Hawk” (me, apparently I am an asshole who not only speaks in 3rd person but also only uses a nickname now.) hit a 3 run dinger in 2nd to give R2R the lead. The teams battled back and forth scoring a few here, more there, etc etc… Godsy blew a call and admitted it. Julia McHugh came up clutch with a bases loaded 3 RBI hit that cleared the bases in the 8th. R2R rallied again in the 9th, but couldn’t get it done in the end.” Despite thier late day game, the Reelers were still able to snag the two good window tables at the Gibson for some post game boozin.

Zak on the 4th of July

We lazed about the park for a bit after that as the day cooled off and besides, what better way to celebrate the 4th of July than with…uhhh…2 for 5 ceviche?? Screw the hot dogs, I’ll take it! These new boys served up some delicious unamerican spiciness while rocking out to the 80’s on their bedazzled boom box. Two thumbs up.

Jordan arm wrestling, or passing a kidney stone. Your guess is as good as ours.

Then onto the real shit show was the afterparty at the Gibson where the boys really showed off their brawn with some arm wrestling action. Well, except for Jordisco who lost Godsy a sawbuck when his offseason push-up muscles failed to overpower Geralds guns of glory. Man, Monday was fun, huh?

I’ll probably squeeze out a preview tonight after I pack. Don’t expect greatness, and don’t pester me.
