Week 9 – Recap

Tue, Jun 19, 2012

Violet, following in her daddy's footsteps, lays down the smack, while O'Malley tries to recruit her for Spike Hill 2032 roster (which he almost has filled).

11AM

Black Betty breaks a three game losing streak and prevails against Reel 2 Reel. These two old time favorites matched up in the early morning slot. JB$ was back on the hill for the Betty, and so were the tunes. Both teams fought hard and the defense was sharp. Recalling the days of yore (which was on a Wednesday if I remember) the two teams battled it out and Black Betty prevailed. How generic of a recap is that?? (H wrote this).

After a strong start to the season, Mendoza loses 4 of their last 5 and are now three games out of first place. Good Co. Sam O gets recap of the week spot with a huge win:

It was great to see Sam in such a good mood this weekend! Also, Rob is so proud of his fellow teammates this season he offered to buy the first round of much deserved Buds this coming Sunday. Whatta guy.

The Boys of the Nest Celebrating their Win!

1PM

Here came the Game of the Week, New School vs Old School for 2012 bragging rights over The Nest!! MVP Matty Mudd of TNT pitched one heck of game holding the Turkey Nest squad to only 6 runs through 6 innings. Shane from TNT turned a sweet ass double play early in the game to stop  a likely WSL big inning for The Turks, keeping that score tight.  TNT manager Haz came in to pitch the last 3 shutout innings of relief, while the offense scratched together some late runs off of a stingy Turkey’s defense to prevail for the 2012 inter-sponsor game! TNT only had one error all game which proved huge in a close 9-6 final. TNT rushed right over to our corner hot spot to claim the good front tables and humbly toss back a few in their awarded BEST OF THE NEST cups!  Congrats to the Teachers who are taking this season by storm and are now 2 games up on the 2nd seated Petes in the South!!

Over on field two, the 1PM game was about to get underway when…wait…what’s O’Malley’s bat rack and the Clemmerica Flag doing in the same dugout?? Just as stubborn as with their team colors, neither club would concede the usually less sought after of the two benches to their competitor. Finally, Spike Hill all held their breath in unison until Clems gave in and partied on over to the better bench. Ump Derek from Doza then penalized both teams with a 2 minute time-out. I have no idea what happened in the game, but Spike hill rolls!

Let’s all take a tiny league moment here to re-familiarize ourselves with the WSL Golden rule. No reason.

MROW! The ladies of AT!

3PM

Did you see Gerald in his old Black Betty shirt two weeks ago rooting them on against Spike Hill? I like that. I’m giving him a recap of the week spot, as well, because despite taking on his own team, and really tightening their bonds this season, the dude still stood by the old crew. Here ya go, GBlack. “The two teams that switched divisions met for the first and only time this season. The AT formula that worked last week against Clems worked again vs. the Loggers. Behind steady pitching from Jimmy Two Strike, girl power  (offensively/defensively) from Dana and Katrina and timely hitting saw the All-Stars climb to 7-2 for the second best record in the league. AT’s bats were active in every inning and scored throughout the game while their defensive stymied the Loggers for 5 runs, BL had come in averaging 14 runs a game. Mickey “Smiles” Rosegrady well….. smiled from the first inning all the way to his late night Gibson shenanigans.”

Lady Heat!!

RBar took on the 3 Kings on field two and showed no mercy. The Bums scored four in the first and never trailed. Great pitching by Amy and a really strong defensive game by the whole team. Highlights go to: The 2-5 hitters on the Rbar line-up who went 15 for 19 with 14 Ribbies. Josh went 5-5 and Bobby bashed in two more long balls, racking-up 7 RBIs. The big guy is making a run for the money with 5 HR on the board in the last four weeks alone. I personally want to add that the rookie fill in pitcher “Lady HEAT” for 3 Kings did a great job keeping composed on the mound in a difficult unfamiliar match-up. I had to pitch against the RBar muscles one year, back in the day, and I walked about 17 runs in after losing my cool. (which never happens) Wait maybe it was when we had the “walk the next batter rule” and it was just Greg that I awarded all 17 walks….uhhhh…why am I still talking…

OKAY. So you know that dude that rides around the Bedford area ALL summer long, window’s down, bellowing out the oldies?? Well he took a standard drive by Gibson around this time and guess who was in the passenger seat. JesseF’ingBallgame. I mean seriously…will someone give our guy a reality show already? Ballgame’s Facebook Timeline alone is more captivating than an episode of Desperate Housewives!

Pete's passes around the celebratory pre-game spit cup.

5PM

If you arrived here around the 4th inning you’d have seen the Candyboys & girls doing some serious nail biting on their field one bench. Gibson was up 9-0 to start the 4th. Then the Gibson bats went cold and Pete’s heated up. Including an Ian style grounder turned HR crushed by Scott Kirby. It was 11-8 at some point mid-game and then The Gibson chiseled away in the last inning, only to come up a little short. And PCS escapes a big scare.

On Field 2, the canceled 86ers/Yetis game was replaced by kickballers being gay.

Early, Heads-Up! I’ll be out for the July 8th games, so if you’ve been at work or home reading these blogs for the last year and a half, mumbling to yourself, “Ha. Ha.  Ha. Give me a break, I could totally do a better job than this chick,” Then here’s your chance!! Shoot me or H an email request and we’ll let you know if you are not too much of a jerk, and ignore everyone else who we deem as unworthy. (please someone do it.)
