The Commish Laying Down the Lines!

As the heat wave finally broke, so did Godsy, as he broke-down and headed to the fields early once again this Sunday to lay the lines down himself after last week’s butchering job by the Gibson/Logger effort. Holland came down early as promised to help. See him out there in the outfield…with the glove on…hey, wait one second!! Ahhh, we’ll give The Cowman a bye this time…

Gibson started off the day by putting the first run on the board with Three Kings answering right back and scoring 3 in inning one. Then Three Kings started spraying the ball all over the field. Tommy Lips had 2 HRs & Joe “Supatime” Vitale had 1. Before the Gibson knew it the score was 13-3. Each team scored 2 runs a piece after that until, with 2 outs in the eighth, Gibson found their bats and went on an 8 run spree in an inning where I, Carly, made the first and third outs! (DAMMIT!) 3K outplayed The Gibson, who never gave up, but just could not finish as strong as they needed to and lose this one by 5. Three Kings now have 4 ballers on the home run leaderboard!!

The All Stars batted in three runs in the first against Soft Spot on field one, then the Yetis came right back and bottomed the inning with 5 of their own. As a special surprise, Old-Man Vinny came in fresh off an Unsane European tour to shut down the Yeti’s for the last 3 innings old-school style, but it was not enough. Baby-Boy “Gimme the loot! Gimme the loot!” Muentez would hear nothing of it. He went 3-5 with 5 RBI’s and a STRIKE OUT to lead his team to their 4th straight win!  Pizza wanted me to mention that he pitched another full game.

In the North, an exciting game between Clem’s and Pete’s (No, seriously!) that was well played on both sides compliments of solid defense. The first five innings didn’t see more than a two run lead.

Buttah and Co go "Bananas" after winning The 1st ever Cupcake Contest!

Pete’s steadily increased their runs from there, and Clem’s abandoned ship. The Candystore win their first game in 4 weeks, trying for a playoff run!

Over on Field 2, The 86Xers & 4th Down showed-up with their mouths watering for the 1st Ever Cupcake Contest!! I should have made a “Bananas! Cream Pie” because 2nd Chance don’t mess around when it comes to grub-matches!! They sliced & diced the Loggers in a 24-8 blow-out to take home the prize!

I just want to start right out by letting you all know that, THANK GOD, yes Holland is OK! We are all besides ourselves with worry… but H has assured us that he is going to be just fine. A lot of rest and all the love from the league is helping him battle back to his most Awesome self so he can make it out there next Sunday to start collecting hugs! Black Betty won it for their star shortstop and still have control over the South! See his note: I just want to say thank you to all the emails, texts, calls, FB notes, from everyone in the league. Thank you to RBar for showing so much class and to your Doctor teammate (I was a bit out of it, so I apologize for not knowing who this guy was, and why was he in an RBar shirt?? And why is he asking me so many questions?? And why am I in the outfield? And how the hell is Bobby Knapp so damn big?!) I know the league can get pretty competitive and heated at times, but it’s great to see when one of our own go down that everyone comes together as brothers and sisters, which is what this league, ultimately, is all about. It’s actually been pretty overwhelming and heartening to know that we are all very close. I would also like to give a shout out to my teammate Jason Merhaut, who came in the ambulance with me, all the way to the hospital, spoke to the Dr’s and told them what happened (I couldn’t really remember) and stayed the entire time.

Nothing better than dinner at the hospital with good friends!!

They even gave us some dinner! Thank you, Mer! And thank you to everyone for all for your love and support! I love this goddamn league!! Now, enough about me, we have an exciting end of season and playoff’s to get to. Let’s Play Ball!!
– Holland

After the smoke cleared, the Turkey’s Nest & Reel 2 Reel slowly got back into their game and what a game it was!! Both teams kept it close throughout and Reel 2 Reel tied it up in the 8th to eventually send it into extra innings. Turks managed a run in the top of the 10th. Then in the bottom of the inning, with two outs and Julia from R2R on 2nd, there is a single hit-up the middle! Julia is sent home to meet Chuck Divak’s right center crow hop throw to the plate where Laura “Sister Korny” Kornhauser has put up a wall one step in front of Julia, who runs into the tag to end the game! Turkeys win and are in first place in the North for the next couple hours!

Since I played with the ‘Doza Line for the first time ever AND since he lied about my single, which was actually an error, Ted gets the Recap of the Week spot! AssKissin’ pays off in the WSL!

“Mendoza put a quick two runs on the board in the first inning, but the Teachers’ surehanded defense kept it scoreless the next five.  Pete Hoffman hurled a no-hitter until the fourth, when Sil’s unreal wheels turned a bloop single behind first base into a three-run home run. The seventh saw both teams break out, with the Teachers rapping seven hits for five runs and an 8-2 lead.  But in the bottom of the frame, the Line answered with four of their own, including a massive home run shot from Brent!  After an uneventful top of the eighth, Carly (a last-minute sub for late scratch Lindsey), led off with a single to continue Mendoza’s comeback, and Pat tied it up with a two-run home run — his fourth on the year. The Teachers’ 1-2-3 top of the ninth opened the door for

What's the rule when a ball is over thrown and it gets caught in the spokes of a bike?? We don't know either! Someone call the Commish!

Christian Ver Halen, whose line drive was transformed by a bad bounce into a walk-off home run. The win answers TNT’s one run victory over Mendoza back in week four.  Great game by both teams!! Joe Godsy is still stuck on six HRs, but Pat Snajder is hovering on the edge of the Home Run Race, now with four legitimate fourbaggers. “

And then it was Spike Hill vs Good Co…what to say, what to say…24-4, so not much from the pink side. Spike Hill regains control of the North and say what you want about his bats, but O’Malley walks away with the Grand Freakin’ Slam that impressed the hell out of us all! In addition to O’Malley’s HR, Spike Hill had a half a dozen home runs raining down into the field one game and they look to be in play-off form!

Scary weekend,
