Week 12 – Preview

Fri, Jun 10, 2011

Well, we have officially made it half-way through the season with only one rain-out, not a single “garbage” or smoking fine and only one hate mail about the new website!! Also, our Memorial Day story was also picked up by Gothamist!

In the standings, Spike Hill has a one game lead in the North over The Turkey”s Nest, while Reel 2 Reel & Good Co are tied at only 2 games behind first place. RBar is only 1 game back in the South, unfortunately EVERYBODY else is tied for 1st except The Turkey”s Teachers & Clems.

Let”s see what this week, with only a 60% chance of rain so far, might bring:

11AM
Black Betty is looking to get back on track early this Sunday against 4th Down. Logger Tommy Patarack popped his arm back in place and will probably be back out there for this tough match-up. Neither of these clubs dwell on past games and also I would like to note that two of the 1st ever WSL Home Run Contest leaders are meeting each other here. Camarra & Cesar are both tied for second on the list at 5 dingers apiece, but they are also both one homer behind the Commish who sits in first place after this past weekend with 6.

Soft Spot squeaked out a W against the Gibson last week ending their 3 game losing streak, while 3 Kings did a nice job with AT and look to be in mid-season form. I have a feeling that this is going to be the Game of the Week with both teams putting a lot of heart into a very important game for them both.

1PM
Turkey”s Nest and Mendoza meet for the first time since “09 over on field one where”s there”s a 99.9% chance of “dick in a pie” jokes.

So, when you grow tired of that, head on over to field 2 to see who”s going to move on to a .666 average, AT or Reel 2 Reel. This is going to be an exciting defensive match up, with both clubs tied for the lowest runs allowed this season at only 69 a piece (editor”s note: 69… hehe). AT has the element of surprise to their advantage with a lot of new ballers that Reel 2 Reel hasn”t scouted, while a handful of their own teammates play with AT Co-Captain, Gerald (Formerly G-Black) on the same Saturday league team. After getting shocked last week, you can be sure that Scott (this is the nederlandsegokken online casino Scott of Scott vs. CB) & Gerald have their club 100% prepared for this test.

3PM
Clem”s has guaranteed a win against 2nd Chance over on Field A, so this should be interesting as both clubs look to move to .333! The 86ers haven”t had a win since week #3, but they just finished off a tough stretch with Spike Hill, R2R, Betty & RBar. These two both hold the MOST runs allowed on the season so the winner will be the team that can tighten up that D.

On Field B, The Gibson plays the Turkey”s Teachers for the first time…and I think they are my biggest fans!
Seriously though, The Teacher”s have had some tough breaks and are looking meek at 2 – 6 so far, but what you may have not noticed is these guys always keep it close and only fell by an average of just under 4 runs in these losses. Gibson will be playing like they have nothing to lose and always manage to surprise a few teams each season, but if not they still have Reno to heckle every female baller in the 5PM slots.

5PM
RBar found their bats last Sunday and how! They”ll need to continue that this weekend if they want to upset a solid Good Co that has only three losses thus far to The Nest, Spike Hill & Pete”s. RBar has BEAT Spike Hill & Pete”s. I think that a bet is in order here! If RBar loses they have to head on over to Good Co for post-day celebration all clad in hipster attire. If The Pink Ladies give up their 2nd in a row they have to converge on the RBar for a night of 80″s hair band karaoke. I like it! Done & done!!

I think O”Malley even emailed the hot dog lady this week trying to get some sort of scouting report on Pete”s! It”s no secret that the Candy store, still strong with an original roster, has been the surprise of the league this season. This game stands as a symbol to the most argued WSL debate of recent years: Can an old band of teammates pull together and perform at a level high enough to win it all? Or do we need new teams with new talent to come in to make the league more competitive so that every year isn”t a repeat of the last? Good luck to them both, no pressure…

Please don”t rain, please don”t rain, please don”t rain…

Editor”s Note: In all seriousness, if you want your team mentioned, or if you think there could be improvements to the site or something, please do not hesitate to either write Carly or myself and drop us a note and let either one of us know what you have in mind. This site is intended to be all inclusive, no favorites, no trash talk (do that on the field and back it up) and at the end of the day: fun. Obviously, gentle ribbing is always included on the WSL site, but nothing is malicious. So, feel free to reach out to either one of us. Thanks, H.
