Week 8 – Preview

Fri, May 13, 2011

So, I’ve officially given up my fantasy baseball league for you all…so you all better be checking in here for this crap! Week #8 is our last chance to make a statement in our divisions before we shake things up with the other side.

If it doesn’t rain (50/50) then here’s a peek at what we have in store:

3 Kings @ R2R
This should be a better match-up than one would expect with both teams beating and losing to the same guys in their division, with the exception of Turkey’s who were short players when Reel 2 Reel clobbered them by a gazzilion runs. The Kings will have to tighten up their D though, cause the Reel 2 Reelers hit all over the place and are in a battle for 2nd Place in the North!

Clem’s @ RBar
Clem’s is rolling into RBar still riding high on their first win of the season. The Bums can’t finish the division play with a winning record, but they have a good chance here despite their low run count. RBar will be trying to lift their 9 runs/game average against a team who, before last week, was giving up a whopping average of 25 runs per game.

2nd Chance @ Good Co
The 86ers need a W here bad to gain some momentum heading into the South next week with a couple of tough match-ups coming their way. But don’t expect Good Co to go easy on them, well…’cause…they never go easy on anyone! Good Co also has their eye on that 2nd seat in the North so expect them to unleash their bats.

Soft Spot @ Turkey’s Teachers
Both Soft Spot & Turkey’s Teachers are feeling the weight of a two game losing streak. The Teachers might want to go with the [students > teachers] ratio if they want to give this veteran team trouble in regaining control of the South. The Yeti’s will be pumped. I think I saw Aaron at the park already doing preparation cartwheels.

Gibson @ Turkey’s Nest
THE BATTLE FOR BRAGGING RIGHTS IS ON! If Gibson can pull this one off, word has it that Geoff will install a running banner around the bar that proudly states, “DRINK AT THE GIBSON, HOME OF THE BEST SOFTBALL TEAM ON THE BLOCK” (I think you all know who I’M rooting for here.)

Pete’s @ Black Betty
Love ’em or hate ’em, Betty is back, angry and looking to take control of their division. But Pete’s, coming off a huge win against ‘Doza, has the confidence they need against this club and they are also contenders for that top spot. Should be a heated game with two great teams squaring off.

Loggers @ Spike Hill
If your lookin’ for some tough lady-baller action (editor’s note: and who isn’t??) plant your coolers down on Field One at 5 ’cause the picks of the litter will be on the field to show each other up in this match-up. Neither team has anything to lose. (I think we all know who we are ALL rooting for here.)

AT @ Mendoza
They both beat Betty, they both played close ones with Soft Spot. What’s going to happen in this one? Who knows?! Maybe this guy does…
This is the game we’ll all be keeping our eye on, we do know that. All these teams are all tied-up and making their runs for that tough top spot in the South. Good luck to them all!

God, I need a life…see ya Sunday!

Editor’s Post:

If you haven’t noticed, right there on the left side you’ll see a fun little box that says: Williamsburg Softball Home Run Leader Board. Yes! Your eyes are not decieving you, we are in fact going to attempt to track our home run leaders in the WSL. This will either:
A) Be a total cluster f*ck.
B) Be totally awesome!!

So, if you’re interested and think you have enough HR’s to win the crown (or tshirt) at the end of the year, get together with your manager, get your HR totals together (make sure you have evidence to prove the HR’s) and submit them to our very own Cesar Fisher (, who will manage this.

Please note – this is the rule for a HR as per the Commissioner: A home run should be categorized as a ball hit beyond the outfielders without them touching it.  If it’s a line drive that cleanly goes through (splits the outfielders), fine.  Takes a bad hop and cleanly misses an outfielder, fine.  But by no means should a home run be a ball that is dropped, kicked, deflected, thrown all around the field and it should also not involve a play at any base other than home.  If the outfielder tries to peg the guy at third and overthrows allowing him to score:  not a homer.

As long as we play by these simple rules, then this should be fun!

Good luck!

(God I need a life too)
