Week 4 – Recap

Tue, Apr 19, 2011

With the schedule pushed back an hour due to Saturday’s ice storm we all rolled in a little cranky, but with a huge effort by the Commish & umping staff all the fields were made playable and the games were squeezed in before nightfall… almost. A round of applause to them all!!

Ok, ass-kissin’ outta the way, let’s get to the recap:

In the 11am slot: Playing short one man, the Turkey’s Nest coughed up 6 runs in the first inning but were able to still keep it relatively close until the 8th when Reel 2 Reel went on an 8 run drive guaranteeing their opponent’s demise. WSL Play of the Day goes to Jamie on Reel to Reel when backing up for a high pop fly at short she lost it in the sun and covered her head with her arms only to have the ball plunk right into her mitt… drawing oohs & ahhs from all sides of the field!! Across the way, in a game that was more: “Look out for that lake behind you,” than it was anything else, Pete’s pulled away for a comfortable victory after 5 close innings of play. Will Clem’s all-star shortstop ever come off the DL?

3 Kings and The Gibson kept it really tight in the 1pm slot heading into the bottom of the ninth all tied-up! The Gibson scored a couple runs but gave-up one too many as the Kings won with a walk-off to move to .500. In the South, Black Betty & RBar duked it out in a re-match of their playoff battle last year. The game was tight overall, but the Betty came out victorious with an 11-7 win.

Spike Hill vs Good Co was the crowd pleaser we all expected, both teams answering each other with big offensive innings throughout. Good Co was able to hold Spike Hill from the 7th, and with a few good at-bats they sent the game into extra innings. Spike Hill proved they wanted the W more and stole it from the Phantoms in the 10th continuing their winning and undefeated streak.

On field B in another nail-biter, Mendoza was at-bat and down by one in the top of the ninth, but fell short and lost their second in a row as The Teachers evened out to 2-2.

Next up, AT All Stars rolled in with what one can only pray is their full roster to battle the top team in the South. They had so many players, each one was only allowed to see one pitch and they had to pass the bat on to the batter behind them. Last we heard they were going to cut their roster down to an even 800. The All Stars started out strong scoring 5 in the 1st inning…but the Yeti’s started tightening up on the D and held them to just 6 more runs by the 5th. Down 11-4 in the 7th, Soft Spot went on a 7 run streak to tie it up and AT never came back giving up 3 in the ninth and The Soft Spot Yeti’s stay undefeated!

The final game of the day started this morning as The Loggers snatched up their first victory of the season! 2nd chance scored all of their 4 runs in the first inning and 4th Down woke-up their bats including a grand slam by the Almighty Cesar (see image).
4th Down Loggers managed to finish off the 86ers a little after midnight.

Big thanks to all of you who provided me with game details. Also, we just need a little more effort with the garbage folks!! Remember, one warning could be our last, so please remember to keep it classy.

No games this weekend, Happy Easter, see you all in 2 weeks!!

– Carly
