2011 A Look Forward…

Fri, Mar 25, 2011

Well, after a long, cold and lonely off-season, Opening Day 2011 is finally (mercifully) almost here.

Which leads us to wonder what this year will hold in store for us. So, now, in a completely unsponsored pre-season review of the upcoming season, here are the stories, and possible predictions for the 2011 Season. Actually, more questions than answers… only time will tell!

The North
Spike Hill: After a painful loss in their first ever playoff series against their rivals Reel2Reel, will Spike Hill be able to bounce back and earn the respect of the rest of the league and live up to the hype?? Will O’Malley lead his team to victory, or should we be keeping our eyes out for another post on Craigs List??

Phantom: Last season saw the end of Enid’s, but the rise of The Phantom. Perennial contenders, will The Phantom be able to get back into the Northern Division Championship and win the championship? They were the last team to do so before The Black Dynasty! Can they turn the league back into Pink & White?

Turkey’s Nest: Probably the best 9 players in the league are on this team, but every season seems to be a struggle in the playoff’s. Will Jordisco & Co. finally come out on top and take the North Division??

Reel2Reel: Once again R2R made it to the big game in 2010, unfortunately, to be denied a championship. The best and battle-hardened team in the league with a crazy good line-up, look for them to finally win the big game this year.

Loggers: Will the war cry finally propel this team out of the first round of the playoff’s? Brenner’s Crew is looking to finally make this year the year for the Brew Crew!

Gibson: After missing the playoff’s last year and now with new management and a new outlook, how will The Gibson respond this summer and can they get back into the playoffs and make a run for the big dance?

2nd Chance Saloon: Run by Al “Winning” Bizness and “Speedy” Jeff Gutowski, 2nd Chance stacked up during the off-season and is sure to surprise a lot of teams out there when they match up against them.

3 Kings: They’ve yet to make the playoffs or win more than three games in a season, but this year could be the season they turn that around and get to .500 and start making some noise. They’ve got some new players, don’t look past these guys.

The South:
Black Betty: Let’s start with the Five Time Defending Champs. With a new Camarra entering the league and Jody currently on the PL (Pregnancy List), will the Betty be able to continue its string of success without the best girl in the league? With the loss of Gerald Betty to A/T, will The Betty be able to overcome these obstacles and win #6?? This is new territory for all teams in the league, how will The Betty respond and can they keep the league in the Blackness?

Union Pool: Rumored to now be owned by Soft Spot, Union Pool is always a great team with lockdown defense. They had a very solid season last year, securing the #2 spot, but were not able to get past The Betty in the playoff’s. Now, with a new season, Union Pool (or Soft Spot??) is sure to be a contender!

RBar: Last year’s #1 seed is a tough, tough team. Stacked with great players, great lefties and are a hitting machine, RBar is poised to make this year, their year. Will they be able to repeat their success from last year and make it to the championship??

Mendoza Line: Always one of the best teams in the league, but hasn’t won the big game since 2004, look for them to make some noise and come out big this season.

Pete’s Candy Store: A very good team, always on the cusp of having a big breakout season. Will this year be the one that puts them over the top and into contention?

Turkey’s Teachers: This team came out strong last year in their inaugural season. Everyone thought these were going to be the guys that ran away with it, but they hit some bumps in the middle of the season. Let’s see if they can right the train and pick up the momentum from last season.

Clems: Always a fan favorite, Clems has picked up some great players and is a solid team. Everone is waiting for this team to start rattling off some wins, will this be the year they right the Battleship Clems and start handing out some beatdowns??

A/T: Finally, saved the best for last. A/T has had quite a rebuilding process during the off-season. They have picked up some really, really good players, as well as taken 5-time Black Betty champ Gerald Betty under their wing. A/T is definitely the most improved and now, one of the best teams, in the league.

Finally, after hearing these pretty mundane predictions and questions, we leave it up to you. Now, it’s your time to vote!! Who will win the North, the South and the big dance?! Vote now!!

Have a great opening day, everyone!! Pick up your garbage and have fun!!
